How much difficulty have in putting either the Kenwood or Eclipse into my 2003 XLT? I have the factory 6cd changer that "appears" to be the right size. I have gone to Crutchfield and they say these will not fit.
Crutchfield says that because you have to trim the factory dash opening slightly to get ANY double DIN unit to fit. It is simple to do, but unless it's a straight bolt-in, Crutchfield will not list it.

Are the any Forum Articles on how to do this with Pics?

Also, do you know if the stock Mach amp runs just the Mach sub or the entire stereo system (7 speaker system)? I'm thinking of replacing the stock sub (and possibly amp) and for now leaving the HU stock (adding the PIE adapter for iPod) until I can afford the double din deck I want. Also, do you know the power ratings on the stock amp and sub and what ohms they run at? I can't find this info anywhere online and I'm wondering if I can just replace the stock sub or if I should also put in a bigger amp (probably a better call but if the stock amp can handle a little better sub it could be worth it for the time being). I'm also going to be replacing the 4 stock door speakers with pioneer 2-ways in the front and 3-ways in the back. At some point I know I'm going to need a better HU to truly power those speakers. Sorry for all the questions, I can post links to things I'm looking at if that would help. Thanks for any help.
The stock mach amp only powers the stock Mach subwoofer. If you replace the stock Mach subwoofer and tie it to the stock Mach amp, the results are not good. You want to replace both. It is impossible to find and fit a third party amp into the Stock Mack location so one ends up placing it under the front seat.

No install kit...it sat right in and used a scrap peice of metal to secure it to the tube bar that is in the back of the center dash. The trim peice came with the stereo and we just modified it to fit correctly.

You modified it by shaving some plastic off this? The trim piece you have there is nice. It look so perfect in there.

Just take that wire and ground it to the head unit itself....I just bolted it straight to the back of it :) If you hook that up to your parking brake then you can only watch video while parked. Instead you want it to work all the time so it needs a constant ground. Just bolt it right back to your headunit :cigar:

I finally completed installing the Kenwood DNX5140 head unit, if it was not for this forum, I would probably have to pay a professional to install it. I used the instruction that are on this forum to make all the adjustment so the Kenwood HU would fit. I also had to modified the harness that leads to the Mach amp to elimnated the popping sound when the HU is power on. I didn't upgrade the speakers yet, I will probably do it in the spring. I will try to post some photo and probably take some video of the HU and post it on Youtube. I bid on this HU on Ebay and won it for $490.00, it is brand new. I was lucky to get it for a low price, the average price I've seen for a new one was going for over $650.00, Best Buy and Crutchfield about $900.00

Guys I need real help I installed a Kenwood DNX7100 in my 03 Explorer W/premium sound and there is three things I need desperate help with.

1st The 12v to 5v inverter I have has three wires Black, Blue and White, and a Blue and Red. What do I hook those wires to on the head unit and the plug with the two RCA jacks on it? I have them going to Black-Ground, Blue/White-Blue/White in plug W/RCA jacks and from head, Blue/Red-Ext.Amp.Cont

2nd When I turn the car off then back on the display, displays the Call screen instead of turning to Ipod because that's what the unit was playing when the unit was turned off. I have the Bluetooth module and hooked the brown wire to the Black ground on the wiring harness. But I don't think that's what is causing that and the unit remembers all the sound changes I've made.

3rd my ash lights are no longer working/ I wouldn't thing that anything at the two plugs for the stereo would cause that

PLEASE NEED HELP BAD!!!!!!

Follow this video to the letter, to eliminate the sub amp pop:

Follow this video how to connect the adaptor with the red/white RCA leads:

2nd - Unless there is a setting in the menu of the radio, that is what the unit must be programmed to do. What does it do when you are on the radio, turn off, and restart (like after going to the store)?

3rd-did you blow the fuse? Do any of the dash lights work? If not, you blew a fuse most probably from a wrong connection.

I just installed 2 stereos, 1 in a Freestyle w/audiophile system and 1 in my Escape with stock radio. The Freestyle required the knowledge these 2 videos offer. Highly recommended tutorials. The Freestyle went from a crazy loud (darn near close to frighteningly loud) to in-audible turn on with the 2 1K Ohm resistors...The 2nd video, I only connected the blue/white on the connector to the blue 'P. Cont' wire from the HU. The resistors go inline between the 2 wires. Easy peazy.

Did the trim piece around ur HU come with ur HU or did u buy it seperatly
I purchase it seperately, the trim that came with the HU would not fit, it is too big.
Nice clean install! Good job!
