I am New to this Forum and this is my first thread so if this has already been discussed I appolagize.

I am in the Market for a newer Vehicle when I return to the states in September from an overseas tour with the US Navy. My old car (1998 Ford Escort Wagon) has died in my brothers care while I have been gone.

With that being said I am looking into Ford Escapes or Mercury Mariners as a new replacement. I had my wagon hooked up with a custom system I I love the sound of a good system in Hatchback/SUV's.

My next car either the ESCAPE or the MARINER would be either in the '04 - 07' range.

I would really like to get an in-dash DVD reciever as a start for my system. The Factory stereo looks like it could be a DD, but on all the websites I have seen i can not find a DD reciever that will fit. Is there some sort of custom mounting kit that I could get, to get a DD DVD reciever to fit?

Go to crutchfield.com and you will find all sorts of Double Din and at crutchfield you get free installation equipment.

I don't think the one for the new E/M/T will be "free". It's quite more than the std $20 kit. Check metraonline.com, and scosche.com. Both have install kits, and will may show pictures/instructions. Ebay also has kits.

Oh -- sorry -- the install kits for the 04-07 should be free, and a DD will fit. On the 08+, you need to replace the whole Stereo/AC/Heat dash panel.

You mean they should be free from Cruthchfield?

^ Yes...along with a lot of other goodies. They may not have the best prices, but you can't beat them for customer service quality.

I had a DNX7100 in mine as well. The opening for the stereo on the E/M/T is about 1.5 Din...you can easily open this up by cutting the plastic behind the center panel. I used a rotozip and it worked fine.

Its a little off topic, but you said your stationed overseas with the US Navy? heh so am I. I just bought a brand new escape for one hell of a deal, i got 8000 off the mrsp through the Navy exchange car sale program, if you have some time left on your tour, id reccomend you check that out
