I would use just hose pressure... or a strategically placed pressure washer. Pressure cleaning the engine should be done with care. More escape owners run into problems afterwards because the forced water into the coil packs and then had misfire engine faults and even as far a cat converter failures due to bad or misfiring coil packs.
It is best to concentrate the spray away from the tops of the heads (where the coils are) and the driverside wire bundles under and near the battery. Everything runs through this area a water forced into the connectors can cause issue for a long time to come.
