Take off some of your obvious nuts on the top of the engine and engine accessories. Get down to your hardware store and buy some replacements that are chromed or even satin finish/stainless steel. We're talking pennies per nut here. Do your wire covers in black, unless your wanting to draw attention to them. And I think you aren't as you stated that you already have a wire issue. I'd pick out two maybe three things that would look nice painted in a satin finish of silver. Not glossy, more faux stainless. It would be better if the items could be made of stainless. It just happens to be that they are probably plastic. Used to be that people would buy the chrome covers for things like the coil and air cleaner at the local speed shop. Those items aren't under the hood of most modern cars. The idea of course is what your looking for, some pop without the attention getting value of "HEY, LOOK AT ME!". Subtle and tasteful.
