Very happy with the performance, of my ford 2.3 litre four cylinder engine. Mechanics have told me, that ford did a joint venture with mazda on the motor. By the same token the service techs are not quite sure, as to how much mazda componentry is in the engine. I always drive with economy in mind. It appears my best mileage is achieved on long trips, cruising on exactly 100kmh.
The servicing of mechanical areas on car are done regularly. I noticed the engine idles exceedingly smooth. It never hesitates or misses a beat. My service tech keeps it well tuned, and the timing in motor is quite consistent.
The engine coolant system is ever so reliable. Even on very hot days and if it is under load, as in driving along a steep and long hill, the temperature guage level does not rise excessively. Obviously a four cylinder, will not have the power of an escape V6.
Initially i under estimated the 2.3L four pot in context of performance. It all depends on how the automatic transmission is used. Just drop it back to first gear and let it wind out a tad. Then give her a blast in second and change into D for drive. The acceleration is quite impressive. Others may choose to disagree upon this. You are quite welcome to do so. Personally i only do this throttle technique, at random to " Blow the cobwebs out". Keep in mind it is not done as a habit, because the four pot will start guzzling petrol.
My opinion is that the duratec 2.3L can be quite zippy in throttle response. Do not want my articles to be too long, because it is tiring.
