hi guys ive been trollin' for a good while but now i have a question i feel only this forum can answer.

I got a rocking' deal on an 01 escape zetec 4x2 5 speed but the motor is toast. No big deal i got a spare forged 167 wheel hp zetec motor that i use as a back up in my '00 ZX2. anyways, i really love the new 6f35 (6speed autobox) and 240hp duratec V6...because my zetec is built more for hp than torque.

so i figure my options are to build a manifold for the zetec and run a spare Eaton M62;
run zetec motor in it with the stock 4.588 gears;

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
try to run the 6f35 trans with the 167whp* 2.0l Zetec......

6F gear ratio:
1 2 3 4 5 6 final -
4.484 2.872 1.842 1.414 1.000 0.742 3.39 -
-
g5m (currently in it) -
3.307 1.833 1.311 1.030 0.795 ------- 4.588-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

or what i really want...the 09 drivetrain.

so far my homework tells me

-01-09 uses CD2 platform, all has tunnels
-identical wheelbase
-use tranny cpu, engine ecu, motor mounts from the 09
-would have to get interior parts from 05-09 being they have floor shifter, not console.

heck if the console/dash fits im gonna source a navi/320w premium sound system...but thats down the road.

could you guys thats owned 1st and 2nd gen CD2's that are diy'ers give me insight on possible issues...like axle length, did the spline count change, did DANA change only internals from the A4 to the A6, etc. any input on any of the 6f or v6 options is appreciated...and dont worry, ive built 306's 347 408's and swapped them in escorts foci etc...so im up for a challenge

I don't know if anyone here knows the complete answer. The Escape has relatively little aftermarket support and has been very reliable, so very few people have ever gone that deep into it.

I think your biggest problem will be getting the 09 computer talking with non-drivetrain parts (i.e., leftover '01 bits), like the instrument cluster and maybe the lighting systems. A lot more was handled by the '05+ computer than previous models, so you might have to replace the fuse boxes to get things to match up. The newer computer handles the DRLs and turn signals, where the 01-04 models had a separate DRL module and traditional flashers. Everything should bolt up to the older body, but you might end up replacing everything but the radiator.

The 6F transmission might bolt up to the Zetec (I haven't gone anywhere near that deep to know if the bell housings would match), but I don't think a PCM exists that will handle the 6F together with a Zetec. You could go with aftermarket modules if they exist, but I don't know what kind of functionality you would lose (e.g., cruise control, oil life monitor, MPG meter).

You might be able to keep the steering column shifter being that they are all cable-shifted.

I'm thinking that the entire wiring harness probably is needed to the 09. I doubt that the drive by wire will work without it. Or anything else that goes through the PCM for that matter. But that's just an uneducated understanding, not even an educated guess. ;)

I didn't know the '09s were drive-by-wire. I wonder if there are any differences to the pedal mounting brackets due to the extra sensor.

What's the point of drive-by-wire anyways :rant:

I could be wrong. But I understand that Ford went drive by wire for the entire fleet. :confused:

No point in so far as I know. :shrug:
I'm almost certain my 08 is even Drive-by-wire.

The point is that the computer now controls the throttle instead of you, which I think is kinda scary.

The transmission isn't too much of an issue imo. If you have the tools. Got the tools? No issue. No tools, got an issue. :calvin:
