Here's some good news from The Detroit Free Press. Looks like the Escape hybrid could be getting it's new power plant from the Detroit area as early as 2012. I'm sure the folks at Aisin AW in Japan have done a fine job in the past, but it's alway nice to see products produced closer to home. :thumb:

There is a battery plant in Holland, Michigan that is own by Johson Saft Controls. This plant is undergoing remodeling and will begin to produce lithium ion hybrid battery packs for the PHEV Escape in 2012. A top management type for Johson Saft Cotrols is:

Yes! Mary Ann Wright who was in charge of the bringing out the Ford Escape Hybrid in August 2004. Ford and Johson Controls Saft have a five year agreement with a minimum of 5000 lithium ion battery packs to be purchased a year during this agreement. There is a cause this can be ramped up significantly if the market demands it. The recent news about the Ford battery packs and transmission might be more related to the Focus electric vehicle and the Trans C. (spelling?) van which will also be electric.
