hello people,

I have a 2009 Escape and I am thinking to change my fog light bulbs to the Putco Jet Yellow.

I know the bulb size is H16/9009. However, I cant find any instructions for help. The instruction on owner's manual is....... totally USELESS.

1. Do I need to have my escape hoist?
2. Necessaray to take the whole mud-shield off? There are 4-5 pin-type bolt and 1-2 screws, do I take them all off?
3. Pictures or diagrams available any where?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you guys.

You can replace each fog lamp by reaching under the front bumper cover near the center, where there's an opening in the splash shield.

But since you're working with halogen lamps (that need to be kept 100% clean), it's not easy to keep each bulb from touching anything while you try to guide it into the socket. You won't really be able to see what you're doing.

If you're careful, you can squeeze the three tabs holding each fog lamp assembly inside the bumper cover, then push the assembly outward. Then you have easy access to the bulb socket. The assembly simply snaps back in when you're done.

Clean each new bulb with isopropyl alcohol, and don't let the bulb touch anything, including the opening in the lamp housing. Any dirt or grease on the bulb will lead to early failure.

Also, since I tried the Putco bulbs myself, be careful of the contacts. The Putco connector contacts are slightly different from the standard H16 contacts.

Good luck. I didn't have such good luck with the Putco bulbs. One of them turned dim orange after only one day, and if I hadn't pulled into the parking lot of a store with a glass window large enough to let me see the front of the car, I'll bet that bulb would have melted the housing.

The top one is the one that failed. If you look closely at the lower contact on the top lamp, you can see a small crack in the quartz.

JPark,

Thank you soo much for your quick reply.
I will try this on the coming weekend.
BTW, besides the Putcos, is there any other brand that carries the H16 bulbs? Most of my local sellers dont even know that H16 exists.

Until recently, Putco was the only distributor of any kind of H16 halogen replacement, but Nokya just released H16 bulbs, and HPX makes LED replacements (but probably not very bright). I found them at http://tinyurl.com/33yrenu.

There are also several HID replacements already out there. Just look for HID H16 9009 5202.

Good luck!
