Just drove my 2018 Ford Escape Titanium from IL to FL with only 67,000 miles. While nearing end of trip, noticed engine "missing" at idle. Check engine light illuminated but not flashing so I didn't panic and scheduled an appt for repair of idle issue.

The morning I started SUV before traveling to mechanic, noticed low coolant, overheating, white smoke from tailpipe. According to TSB 22-2229, Ford is aware of issue (coolant intruding into block and mixing with oil causing block to crack. Needs new engine. In the process of fighting Ford for repairs. Catastrophic failure!

Class-action lawsuit pending. Please sign on to lawsuit if you experienced same issue. Better yet sell that thing ASAP! Issue only occurring in Ecoboost 2.0L engines. This failure likely do to problems with engine casting at factory. Many, many owners will eventually experience same issue I had.

See Consumer Class Action Lawsuit Against Ford for details.

I'll update once Ford informs the service manager at Sarasota Ford what they are willing to cover.

At least my 1.5 is covered by a Customer Satisfaction Program until November (I am already over the mileage), I need to find out how much is left of my extended warranty.

This is occurring on my 2017 Ford Edge. I am out of warranty but I called Ford and they will be covering 50% of my repair so I'm on the hook for about 3k
I contacted Ford and was given a case #. Currently, our vehicle is with our local dealer for "diagnosis" but I am certain we have the dreaded issue. Did you have to do much haggling with Ford to get their 50% committment? Thanks!

Surprisingly, no. Make sure you get good contact info for the Ford Case owner and the Case number. They will work with the dealer to get a quote for the repair and then come back to you with how much they will cover.

That's encouraging news! I also have a 2017 Edge; we bought it used with just under 40K miles and it's been a great vehicle up to this point. It will still be cheaper to get the long block replacement than get a different vehicle. Thanks again for sharing the info.
