My ford escape 2011 V6 XLT was serviced by ford due to a recall on the fuel delivery module flange. After a few days, the car cranks for a long time before staring when off for more than 5 minutes. If the car is put off and started a few seconds later it starts right up. Changed the battery and checked the alternator both are fine. I unplugged the fuse for the fuel pump and it cranked for a long time without starting which is usually not the case. It usually starts and dies but this time it just didnt start at all so I feel the pressure drops in the fuel delivery system and doesn't build up quick enough to start the engine. What do you guys think?

Sounds as if you have the right idea. To check, try cycling the key from OFF to ON, pausing, and then back to OFF. Repeat 3-4 times, allowing the pump to run after each ON for a few seconds. If the fuel has drained from the fuel rail that feeds the injectors, cycling the pump should build pressure and allow normal cranking and starting.
Causes of pressure drop are leaking injector(s), and leaky check valve(likely on the pump body / sending unit in the tank), or leaky connections(would likely cause smell of fuel).

OMG mine does the exact same thing after taking it in for the recall. I took my E back to Ford and they couldn't "recreate the problem" Since with mine it only happens occasionally I've been waiting for it to become a bigger issue before taking it back to Ford again. The difference with mine is it starts fine when cold, but then the starting problem starts after it's really warmed-up and then only occasionally

Hello I just wanted to reply to this thread for any future viewers that may look at this thread in reference to figuring out their own issue. I have a 2011 3.0L V6 ford escape that just recently had the recall fixed on it. My car only has about 140,000 miles on it and I’ve taken care of it for the last two years I’ve owned it. My car never ran rough or had any issues until I got the recall done. After that randomly no matter if the car was hot or cold I would sometimes experience a 4-7 sec long crank. And it wasn’t all the time either but it was more frequent after I would say stop at a store or two and would go to leave that this issue would occur. My dad has a tablet scanner and we looked at the fuel pressure and to see if I had any codes. My fuel pressure was good and we could see it hold after starting and turning the car off. I had no codes or check engine light issues. So we were in a loop as far as what was going on. So I read this chat as well as some others and in one it said they put their foot on the throttle and their car would turn over immediately. So I tested that out and it did in fact work but that shouldn’t be the way I have to continue to start my car. So I took my car back to the dealer and they inspected it for themselves and found that the oetkier clamp on the fuel pump was broke due to their insufficient clamping when doing the recall. So they replaced it and fixed it and I’ve not had any problems since. I hope that this helps anyone else who may experience this issue.

not to really revive an old thread but My 10 Mariner is having this same issue. my friend had this recall done and it's long cranking he warned me about it the dealership he brought it to down south was pretty oblivious to their mistake even when he complained about it and showed them. . i just ended up getting a new pump and it solved the problem.
