Fuel Economy Question

746 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Natez
Hello,
I am considering the purchase of a 2010 Escape or Mariner 2.5L 4 cylinder 4x4. After test driving it (Escape), it seems to be a decent vehicle. Can anyone tell me what they are realistically achieving for fuel economy with this vehicle (4 cylinder 4x4) along with their general driving conditions (hilly, flat, city etc.).

Any information would be much appreciated. If you have other important information I should know please feel free to educate me - you're the experts!

Best Regards

I have had my 2010 AWD I4 for a month. I bought it used with 17.5k miles on it and I have put on about 1100 miles since I bought it.

So far, according to the information screen, I am averaging 23.1 mpg. I drive 40 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. Thirty miles of that is highway @ 68 mph. The other 10 miles are side streets with a couple of stop lights. Not stop and go.

Non-work days are mostly "city" driving but again not stop and go traffic. Usually short trips which I am sure does not help the mpg average.

The landscape in Central Ohio is pretty flat. Small hills here and there but nothing that would impact mpg very much.

I drive fairly conservatively i.e usually around the speed limit, no jack rabbit starts. When on the highway I normally use the cruise control.

It's been a bit colder than normal this past month so I don't know how (or if) that impacts overall mileage.
