Good Morning!

Question for the masses who own the Ford Escape:

In my wife's old 2003 Chevy Blazer there was a spot at the top of the headiner for documents, sun glasses and a garage door opener. When we purchased the 2011 Ford Escape XLT with a sun roof, I never noticed  any place to put this garage door opener so that it is out of sight. Does anyone have any ideas how this coul be done?

What year is the Escape? The optional overhead console (standard on almost every Escape except for XLS and some XLT models) should fit perfectly.

No Escape here, but we do have the Tribute isport. No overhead console...

I just hang the thing on the glovebox door. It's so tiny now, I don't think it can be seen from outside. Little black box, nothing to it sizewise. Tinted glass, almost a no see 'em from the outside. I have to look hard and I know it's there.

My Limited has the "universal garage door opener" that's part of the 302A package. I'm not sure where the Homelink name went, but it's almost the same module that I had in my 2002 Explorer and it works the same way, except that it's mounted on the driver sun visor, and the buttons are the same color as the bezel. Now that I look, I don't think that Ford has an overhead console for the 2008+ models that includes the garage door opener compartment, although I haven't seen a model without a sunroof to see what kind of console is included in those models.

The Homelink mod is here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4074&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

If you try to find one of these modules, make sure that it works with rolling-code garage doors. Some of the modules you'll find on ebay will not work with rolling codes.

I was really blown away with what Jpark did in utilizing the Homelink modual set up being incorporated into the driver's sun visor. Looks simple enough except for one thing. Explanation and pictures were above and beyond. Koodoo's to you!
Being electronically short of a few light bulbs, :bang: where does one start to find the three button modual that you used to install the Homelink modual.
I went to the Homelink web page and it really doen't tell you anything or what one has to order.
Wonder if you would shed some light on perhaps a model #, etc.

Best regards,

Actually, I didn't do that mod - it was done by Strejcek.

But the modules are fairly easy to find. Here's one for around $40 plus shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0491982651
+1. Just do an eBay search for Homelink module, and find one that has the correct colored bezel. I'm fairly certain the module itself is a standard size - I was able to find a used one for $25 shipped.

I did install a module in my 03 Escape too. I bought the module from a local junk yard out of Lincolns, actually i bought a bunch of them for all my cars.I paid like 15$ for 4 of them if i remember. In my 03 is a little more difficult to install it because i had to cut the sewing and after i had to sew it back closed but it looks nice and it works nice
