Hi and welcome to the City.

After replacing the gas cap, did you reset the computer by unplugging the battery for ten minutes?

Do you have a Malfunction Indicator Lamp lit along with the fuel cap light? The following TSB outlines how Ford technicians would address this issue:

That's a great link, and a good one to keep handy.

I was going to suggest unplugging the battery, but there is a proceedure that resetting the trouble lamps by using the ignition key and pressing certain odometer buttons. If I find it, I'll post it up. Unplugging the battery is a good subsititute however.

Okay well the start of all of this mishape is the power stearing hose blew. (This happends quite offton in the winter) Because of the cold it was -40 that day. It sat in the garage for a few days intill i got a new hose in. I took it to the car wash to clean any oil that had gotten any where it shouldnt have any belts or anything like that. It was an average yukon winter day probley around -15 to -20. anyway i was wondering maybe if some water got in some where it shouldnt have any maybe froze or something but anyway heres a few things ive tryed

Ive tryed resetting the computer.
Ive tryed manualy resetting all the lights using a computer plug in twice. (The light went out for about a day)
Ive bought a new gas cap and put it on reset the computer. (Samething it went off for a few days then came back on)

Ps. The check engine light is also on and ive basicly done the samethings as all the gas cap light nothing is wrong with it. its just on and its not doing anything but i dont know it just bugs me knowing that my escape is perfectly fine besides these inoying lights.

Have you taken the escape to a service tech? They might have to read your escape cpu, and then rewrite back to it. When my abs brakes sensor was replaced, the mechanic read my escape cpu data, and then reset it by writing back to it. This was done on a panasonic toughbook. :)
