So I have been getting some creaking in my Escape in the front doors when I was doing sharp turns up or over small inclines or into my driveway(basically when the body would twist. I was thinking it was the interior door panels, but it was actually the outer weather striping that starts halfway up the front fender and wraps over the top of the door to the middle of the rear fender. The weather striping was dirty and dried out. I could replicate the noise by pushing on the top of the doors. I cleaned them down very good and lubed them up with silicone spray and BAMN the creaking was gone!

I also went to the fabric store and purchased some adhesive backed felt for $1.99. It is just like the stuff Ford and other auto makers use on the inside panels to prevent creaking. I wrapped some on the cargo cover contact points (especially the two knubs where the cargo cover slides in near the rear hatch opening), and took out my stereo and the center dash trim and put some on any contact points. Next thing I'll do is take the door panels off and put the felt on the contact areas where the handle cups snap into the door and then I'll do the center console so it wont creak when I lean on it.

:yahoo: My Escape is going to be as quiet as a Jaguar.

My Escape is a 2001 XLT model and has over 400,000 kms on it... I originally bought it from a friend for a winter beater but found that it was a very good running vehicle in like new condition with everything functioning well, except for a few creaks and rattles. I addressed the following areas and now my Escape is extremely quiet with absolutley no creaking, squeaking or rattling. In fact, anyone who has ridden in the Escape absolutely cannot believe its age:

1) Rear Hatch - wrapped electrical tape around latch post and window latch striker - immediately got rid of all rattles from hatch. Removed plastic rear hatch liner and applied lithium grease to contact points (silicone works well also);

2) All Door Seals - cleaned and lubriated all weather door seals with silicone lubricant;

3) Door Panels - removed and applied lubricant to contact points - GENTLY readjusted inner door panel (metal) along the top edge where the plastic door liner hooks on (along window). Found that after a lot of use, this metal part "bowed" inward a bit, probably from being pulled closed all the time. To test for creaks, once the plastic door panel is removed, gently push on the metal panel of the door - i found that both front doors creaked really badly.

4) Adjusted door strikers;

5) Centre console - removed black top portion and applied lubricant to contact points. This was the source of a LOT of creaking!

After a little bit of work, the Escape has been driving for quite some time without creaks or rattles - in fact it is quieter than many much newer models with much lower mileage.

You know, I never really noticed all the creaks the Escape has until after I installed all that sound deadening in it. Normally, any creaks are drowned out by all the road noise! :bill:

I'll have to try the center console fixes. That's been the one major creek that I haven't been able to get rid of.

One thing I found is that my glove box used to rattle around a bunch. I opened it up and found two holes in the corners where it looks like little pads should go, but there were no pads! I don't know if the Escape just doesn't come with them or if the previous owner lost them, but you can go to an auto parts store and get little rubber bumpers to fit in there and stop the glove box from bouncing around while driving.

Also found that the lid for the armrest is a source of creaking when you rest your elbow on it - taking off the lid and removing the top and bottom half and applying lthium or silicone lubricant stops that well.
