Here's a post of mine from the past...
Tired of Tires! (Opinions please!)

Okay, I think I have settled on 2 tire choices:

Michelin LTX/MS (the ones dbsbaker got) at $147 x 4

Goodyear Fortera TripleTred at $145 x 4

A $40 rebate is being offered on the Goodyears but that's not my main concern......which tire would you go with? (I just want a quality tire that is quiet and grips the road better than the Contis.)

**Also, would you get the tire certificates for an extra $82? These certificates would get a replacement tire in case of a blowout, damage from debris on road, etc.

Any opinions would be very appreciated as I want to get the tires put on hopefully this week.

Thanks!!

RECAP
I ended up getting the TripleTreds! I LOVE them and they just had their first rotation. I definitely recommend them to anyone wondering about 'em. They are very "grippy" on the road. There's a pic on my CarDomain page.

I have heard many good things about the TripleTreds. In fact, if I were still in Michigan, I probably would have purchased a set.

I like my Pirelli Scorpion STRa's. They have lasted a while and are quiet and have plenty of grip. I don't remember how much I paid though!

TireRack currently has a $40 rebate on these; don't know if this is just a TireRack deal or a GoodYear thing which would be available across all dealers.

For those in the snowbelt, these tires also come with a severe snow rating. Not as ideal as running "real" snow tires, but if you have limited storage these are an alternative to Nokian WR SUVs.

I've got the Goodyear Forteras with Silent Armor. I paid close to $175 per tire about 2 years ago. They have been very good but lately they seem to be riding harder... it might just be the cold weather though. I'll be able to tell for sure once things start to warm up.

As for the tire insurance... I didn't think I needed it and 2 weeks after I got my tires, I hard a thump, thump, thump noise. I checked the tires and found what looked like a bolt in one of the rear tires. I took it back to the Goodyear shop and they took it out. Luckily it was just a fairly short screw with a hex head. After that I purchased the insurance. I figure I go to the occasional construction site and have a better chance of having a problem so it was worth it...
