Today, August 13th, 2009, Les Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY with family and friends by his side.
Without him, music wouldn't have been what it has been over the last 60+ years. His invention, the solid body electric guitar, changed the face of music. His many recording innovations included overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording. He is often credited as being the 'father of modern music'.
From what I heard, until recently, he performed every Monday night (accompanied by a trio which included guitarist Lou Pallo and pianist John Colianni) at the Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway in New York City.
He was one of my hero's. Rest in Peace Lester William Polfuss and thank you for your contributions to the world of music
