My brother in law drives a fleet 08 Explorer. It was recently broken into by apparently forcing something flat between the plastic door handle and door (driver's side).

It was done in less than 10 minutes in a parking of a supermarket around 8. They took only his work papers, sunglasses and my sister's cell phone so it was a quick smash and grab.

My Escape has never been broken into and it makes me wonder if something similar has happened to any member.

If you wish to share be sure to include the year and model.

In 05, when my 05 Escape was only 2 months in my posession, I was staying at a hotel in Greensboro, NC. Some guys broke into my car and several others in the same lot, and a few different hotels nearby as well. They smashed my rear drivers side window out and stole a boombox, some CD and tools out of my truck and dumped other stuff (mainly groceries) on the ground while looking for something worth stealing I assume. The window was replaced that day by my insurance.

Later that year, my insurance (State Farm) was jacked up due to my "accident," and they didn't even cover the stolden merchandise, just the window. The policy was dropped for another carrier that was cheaper than SF was before the accident.

I haven't had our Escape broken into but I never leave anything out in the open. I've trained [or explained] to the wife that it's best to keep everything out of sight. In 1999 I had my '93 Mustang GT [only 60K miles] stolen out of a parking lot in broad daylight right in front of the security booth... Not a fond memory.

my 05 got hit pretty bad for 6 grand in damages/stolen equip. but it was my own fault for parking in my underground and not having an alarm, while having a sound system. since then moved the truck outside by my window and put a 2 way alarm and nothing since *knock on wood*

heres some pics:

they got a nice amount of stuff:

- Pioneer 750W amplifier
- Dual 12" Rockford Fosegate Subwoofer, 1200 watts total power.
- Premeir pioneer 200 w mp3/ipod stereo.
- Magellin GPS navigation
- 80 gig ipod video
- ownership/ insurance and owners book
- 200 piece tool set
- and a bunch of other small electrical stuff.

In May 2007, my Escape was broken into while sitting in my employer parking lot. It was a smash and grab with the driver window being busted.

My GPS was stolen  (I will miss Jill!!!!!)

At least no one has had something happen in a way other than breaking the glass. At least these vehicles are protected by the PATS system with the coded keys.

The Honda I had before the Escape got stolen TWICE. They got the door opened by apparently by removing the trim and sticking something thin between the door and glass and the ignition was broken with a flat blase screwdriver.

First time they stole the battery, head unit, and wheels/tires and the second time they took the CD changer, head unit and the wheels/tires. It had a dealer installed Chapman alarm so.... never get a Chapman alarm.
