2002 w/117k.. i'm up on my pm and it's been reliable. had the alternator go last week, and that was a $600 job. How much longer can I expect it to keep it going? I'm ok with the occasional repair but I'm worried about the transmission or another high price-tag breakdown. What kind of gamble am I taking by not replacing it until 2011 or 2012?

I have an '01 with 137,000 miles on it, still doing great. No big ticket repairs. Are you nice to it? Change the oil every 3k? Make sure it gets proper maintenance when due?

i wouldnt worry just keep up on oil changes and if you havent changed the tranny fluid lately change that aswell. bought my escape 8 months ago with 100k miles now has 130k miles havent done any work to it except oil changes and spark plugs, and changed the tranny fluid. You should be fine.
