Did a lot of reading before we bought it. The Escape is replacing a 2000 Toyota Rav4. It's for my wife. The room in that Rav4 was terrible. I never did like it. Rides rough too. The new Escape on the other hand is much quieter and smoother. It's an automatic 6 speed with 4 cylinder front wheel drive. We wanted the best gas mileage so other than buying a manual tranny or a Hybrid, this was it. It's white with camel leather interior. So far, the only complaint is the Escape was parked under some trees on the dealer lot and the trees dropped some little BB sized balls and they blew out all over the car the first time we turned on the vent blower. Took it back to the dealer and asked them to check to make sure it had a cabin air filter. They blew it out and told us the Escape doesn't have a cabin air filter. Is this correct?

I'm not sure about the 09, but the 2001-2007 Escapes generally did not come with a cabin filter when sold in the US. However, there is a place for one under the passenger side cowl (the plastic grille where the wiper arm is). My Canadian Escape was supposed to have a dealer-installed filter, but I found out three years into ownership that I didn't have one, either.

If you have no allergies, washable furnace filter is your best friend. I cut a piece to fit in the place for the filter of my Escape, and for our Escort which did not have a place for one, I just lined the entire cowl intake with the material.

No filter that I am aware of...I don't own a car or truck with one now or ever. Filter holes are too large to do anything about spores for the most part anyway. I never worried about it. Something else to maintain... :worry: nothing more.

I bought a 2008 Mustang GT/CS V8 in October 2007 and it does have a cabin air filter. I notice a different but pleasant smell when I turn on the air conditioner. Don't notice any smell with just the vent on. I have yet to turn on the air conditioner in the Escape to notice any different smell. I'm assuming I won't smell any different smell because of no filter.

Not sure if my escape has an air cabin filter. It is not indicated in the owners manual.  Out of curiousity shall ask the service tech.

You may have already posted this, but where was your Escape built. Asia? or Kansas City???

OOPS! Just saw it again, you posted Taiwan in another thread.

some of the Escapes are built in Taiwan???

my manual (2009) makes constant reference to "cabin air filter (if equipped)" so that's interesting; if there's a place for one I may install one as well.

I just searched my PDF 2009 Escape Owner's Guide for Cabin Air Filter and nothing turned up. Not in the PDF manual.

Squishy, you've piqued my interest here. We need to try and figure out if the 2008-2009 models have the same "space for a filter" that can be utilized! =)

Anyone have an idea how that wiper cowl comes off?
