The sticker price and ad was for $13,900 I went in and was able to bargain it down to $12,500, the mile on the Escape was 50,000 mile. After I did the paper work for financing they sale/finace manger asked me how much can you afford a month I told him between $250 and $300 and he was like can you do $320 a month for 6 years I was like ok it possible... I was in the lounge waiting he came back later and bought me in to his office he told me the total was $18,500 I was like what the heck no way (a car that costed only $12,500 now is over $18,500, so I told him to break it down for me, he told me that I had to get the Sodimize I didn't even know what it was, had to get the warranty, GAP and plus the price was the total for the taxes, registration, convience fee, green house gas fee etc, I understood that part but not the extra. I told him I don't want the extra and he told me that if you don't take it the bank will deny me, I was like they approve me already, he said no if you change anything "do you see it is pending" they will deny you.... So I said I don't want it and left the dealer.. they had a another salesman run after me and told me to come back to the office and they said ok you dont have to buy the extra it is optional.

The thing is before I walked off I was pleading with him almost begging at first that I don't want the extra, he kept saying "The bank will deny you" and kept pointing to the computer screen told me "do you see it says pending", I told him "I could buy a brand new car for $18,500 what can you do for me to bring it down to around 13,500 and and 14,500 total cost" he said "nothing you have to take it or the bank will deny you" Come to find out later all these extras were optional LMAO and he didn't tell me until I read the paper when the other guy got me to go back in to the office.

Good eye :shades: . Welcome to the club. Post some pics!
Yeah I will, it's the XLT trim with leather seats, but looking foward to modding it once the weather gets warmer here in Connecticut. What I want to mod are the tail light I want to put LED tail lights on it, the stereo will be updated to one of those touch screen LCD and a camera for the rear view and also backseat LCD screen and also some Rims to go with it, other than that nothing too drastic.

Here is the photo that I saw at another forum of the LED tail lights

The thing is they made me wait for like 3 hours past closing time and I was tired and hungry.... than they came to me after closing time and told me I was approved. From what I have read online that if you go close to closing time this is a tatic they use to make you tired and wary so you can't nogtiate well and quick to sign the paper because your judgement is lacking and can't think straight.

Yeah it did turn out good at the end, but they should've been honest with me the first time I sat down with the sales manager and told me these are optional instead of making me plead and beg that the price was too much for a used Escape ($18,500) thats without the finance charges yet. I was willing to pay between 13,500 and 14,500 I told the sales guy can you do something for me like take something off, but he lied to me, he said that "if I take it off the bank will deny me because it is pending and they agree on that I have to purchase the sodmize and warranty" come to find later that sodimize I think was a product like a car protection like a wax to protect the paint it cost about $623 the sales guy name Chris told me "the bank told me I have to take it so the resale vaule of the car would be better for them if I default on the loan", I told them "I never heard of this before" thats when he got me because I was totally oblivous to this product and he came up with that I have to buy it to protect the car. But it was a good thing I walked away and I did get a good deal out of it after all close to the total price I was willing to pay.

Consider it a life lesson learned. Better to arrange for your financing independent of the dealer and have that in place before you get that. That way you can't get sucked into that kind of shady dealing with a dishonest car salesman.

Yeah I think they got me when I told Chris the sales manager that this is my first time financing a car and I didn't know what Sodimizing was and he told that the banks requires it LOL oh well.. lesson learn next time I will finance through my bank better, my first time buying a car and it was a nightmare and I almost gave in, but at the end my resistant held back from signing the orginal paperwork and ended up getting it around the price I wanted to pay for it. I am happy now and I love my Escape it is so comfortable and from all the reviews I have read I hope my Escape holds up to it. What I am looking from this forum is probably to get some idea to maybe tune the engine and what I can do with it to make it better on gas, like what type of air filter, type of gas 87,89 or 92... etc

That black Escape looks very similar... hmm... I wonder if he'll come to our City.

Congrats on your Escape, and welcome to the City, Born Free! Some dealers are crazy. I hope this doesn't sound too graphic (Kiki? :stifle: ), but it sounds like the dealer was trying to "sodimize" you. Glad to hear you didn't give in to their financing pressure. Those guys can be sneaky with adding a bunch of things you don't want, and some people won't even realize it until it's too late.

About fuel, Escapes only require regular unleaded, 87 octane. Putting in anything higher is a waste of money, unless you buy a supercharger kit or an XCal tuner. From what I read, regular air filters, like Purolator, Fram, etc, would be your best bet against any problems with the Mass Airflow Sensor, so you really don't need a filter like a K&N filter. Also from what I read, basic Fram oil filters are junk, so try using Purolator or Motorcraft oil filters (Purolator makes Motorcraft oil filters).

I hope that helps. Enjoy your new Escape! We need pics!

Glad you didn't subcome to the sales tactics, I absolutely hate dealerships! It's very hard to find a good one (they are out there, but hard to find....)

Yeah hehehe that is my nephew we are a big Yankee's fan that was taken last year at Yankee's staduim... Thank so much for all the advice.. yeah they are very tricky and spoke so fast and so much lies they have no pitty for you trust me... I was pleading with him to lower the price at that time he kept saying that if you change anything the bank will deny you I almost gave in... the thing is I didn't know it was all optional till I walked away and they got me a different guy name Keith to re-do the paperwork and thats when he told me they were all optional and he took all the extra off. Than I started reading about tricks car's salesman do this is how they earned their money.

But you are right there are good dealership out there too, I remember my brother went to buy a Honda Civic and the salesman was so nice, they didn't inflated the price at all, just added taxes, registration and conveyance fee. THey have a good reputation, but mine was a bad situation.

Here is a guy that went undecover as a car salesman, some part of the story they used on me LOL....

I used to go to Yankee Stadium 2 or 3 times a year when I lived in Northern NY (98-01) but since relocating to Florida I've only driven to St. Petersberg once for a Yankee-Devil Ray game. If I can find the pics I'll post them for ya!

Enjoy yourself here!

Yeah I go only to 3 or 4 games a season I only can afford the tier section, don't like the bleacher section even though the price is reasonable. I mostly watch the game on YESHD I think it is as good as being at the game plus a better view, it feels just like you are at the game standing next to the pitcher thats how good the clarity of HDTV are these days.

For the members that asked for a photo of my Escape I will try to post it when I get out of work if I could find the darn USB wire for my Sony Digital Cam.
