I have an 05 AWD 3.0L Escape and everytime I come to a stop (I traffic light or stop sign) when I go to take off I get a fairly loud knock sound from the lower left corner of the vehicle. The odd time it won't do it but mostly it does make only one knock sound, too me it sounds like a body mount movement but I'm not good with Ford's only Volkswagen. I bought the vehicle with 50,000kms on it and as far as I can tell or been told the vehicle hasn't been in an accident it now has 100,000kms on it. Anybody that may have the same problem or a possible solution please let me know.

How long has it been doing this? The first thing that comes to mind is a loose brake caliper. Suspension parts usually clunk more often than just starting from a stop, but I wouldn't rule them out either. The sway bar links are known to fail between 50,000 and 100,000 kms.

It did knock not long after I bought it and no its definitely not a caliper noise I'm pretty good mechanically and know the difference, it really sounds like a control arm/body mount something that is attached to the body or frame you can almost feel it in the floor. I'm thinking the sway bar links may be the prob, I'll check those for movement this weekend. Any other ideas ?

Welcome to E-C!

Please take a look at the stabilizer bar bushings, too. One or more of the bushings may have cracked and/or fallen out of their brackets, and that allows the bar to hit the bracket any time there's any difference in the geometry of either side of the front suspension. It's obviously not a critical problem, but it would make an annoying metallic sound.
