Ford makes an LED module for the 2006-2008 Mountaineer and 2008 Taurus X that looks like it fits into the same hole as one of Ford's 3157-style sockets. I've only seen them from the outside of the housings, so I have no idea if or how they'd work, but they sure look like they're retrofits.
But at $32 a pop, I'm not sure I wanna be the guinea pig for that.
