Looking for Rear Sway Bar Picture

6980 Views 17 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  dyoct
Hi gang,

I'm looking for a picture or even part number for a Ford Escape rear sway bar. Doesnt matter what year it's from, but something closest to the 01-07 body would be best. Anyone got any hookups? Thanks!! :)

I don't know of anyone who makes a rear stabilizer bar for Escapes, but it wouldn't surprise me. Looking at the rear suspension components, I'm not sure where you'd even attach the links for each side, except maybe for the lower shock mounts on the knuckle.

I heard that the 2009 models might have an 18.5mm rear stabilizer bar, though. When the service DVDs are released for the '09 models, I'll take a look.
Yup, that's exactly where I would mount it, on the lower shock bolt. I sent Addco an email this morning asking if they could make a rear sway bar for our trucks, and they replied that they would either need an OEM bar or a picture of one.

Jpark, any idea if '07s and '08s came with one? As long as they have the basic design, they can then build off of it.
Nope, neither the '07 or '08 models had one from the factory. Here's the '08 rear suspension exploded view, from the service DVD. It doesn't look much (or any) different from the '01 to '07 models:

I don't know if this will help Addco, since it doesn't really show the body around the rear suspension (which is where they'd have to mount the inner links for the bar). I think they could design one to use the inner side of the shock bolt on the ends (with links to the bar), mount the bar on the rear side of the suspension, and curve it to clear the spare tire on the '05+ models.

Thanks for the picture, but like you said, not sure if it's going to help them too much, they need to see the middle area. I would design it exactly as you described, that's how my neuspeed rsb was setup and it worked great. It also had 3 holes in the bar itself so that you could adjust the endlink for soft/medium/stiff settings.

So I guess the only way to go about it is hope the '09s have a similar suspension setup to the 01-07s. But if that would be thecase, might as well just buy an OEM one...
I'll bet the '09 models will use a new knuckle with an attachment point exclusively for the sway bar link. It would also be great to see Ford increase the rear track at the same time.
I've heard that the Japanese spec Escapes have a rear sway bar.

Would you like me to take a picture of my Tributes rear suspension setup?
Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know. I actually asked Addco the same thing (if they wanted a picture), so i'll wait and see what their answer is.

So Japanese Escapes with rear sway bars. Where/How can I get one!?!? :woohoo:
If your handy you could bend one up using electrical conduit and a conduit bender for a sample for them to work off of. You'd then have to fab the mounts or use some of their universal body/frame mounts with fabed end mounts.

Oh, so you mean do all the leg work, submit the plans to them with dimensions and pictures so that they can produce it and turn around and sell me one? :hyst: Nah, if they want to make the profits, they can do all the work. lol. I dont mind taking the pictures, i'll let them design it.

When I first read your post, I thought you were about to suggest I make one out of conduit and use that as a sway bar  :hyst: :hyst:
So any follow up with this? The newer models do in fact have rear sways bars. Can I safely order a new one for say an 08 + and just mount it to my 06?

Thoughts?
Since that post was 2 yrs ago, u may have reopened something interesting...
At least it made me wiki "sway bar", I didn't know what one was until today. :D
Found a really good "HOW TO" with pictures that confirm that is possible. The quest continues. Its just now I have to order newer style hub/spring holder bottoms. Which I don't really want to have to do. Still debating on whether or not I will. Because if go this far and have to remove the springs and get an alignment. I might just want replace them with some lowering springs. Which is sort like a last resort. The quest for better handling continues, will see...

You need to fill in the part of the URL that says "***-***" with the name of that other Escape site.

I'm not in the 10% here, but what other site? I noticed my in-laws 2012 Escape had the rear bar and thought "what do I need to put one on mine?"
