weyhay!! thursday aftertoon i awoke from being ill with my throat slightly beter and a nice big box awaiting to be unwrapped :D :p

everything there except one thing .... possibly the most important thing in the entire box next to the bar itself... the instructions so i hired the help of my little brother, threatened him more like. the bar actually mounts onto where the fixings go to hold the plastic skid panel underneath on.

So i then spent the next day fitting the bar and bar accessories i had purchased, after a nice wee scrub i took him a drive and took some pictures of the finished product :D. Personally i think it looks fricking brilliant :D.

**problems hit while fitting bar**

screw snapped holding the skid plate in place underneath the car, had to drill it open which buggered the M6 bolt thread that was suppose to be going in there, M8 drill tap and 5 minutes later i was opened up to an m8 which gives it more strength i think personally.

the old registration plate holder stopped the bar from being fitted perfect, and to add insult to injury it was rivited on. 6mm drill bit took care of the rivits however it still left the holes in the bumper :( need to try sourse something out to hide the holes mabye a plastic cover of some kind.

i had to alter the bar to mount the Square registration plate the brackets came for the long rectangle registration plates, drill bit and 10 minutes later the brackets where moved over an inch towards the center.

the registration plate holder itself i couldnt mount straight onto the brackets so i cut up an old registration plate that would act as a mount for both my regiplate and the amber LED'S which are connected to the side lights. had to cut away at the back of the chrome surround 20mm hole saw did this perfect.

cuts and bruises count = 0
snapped drill bits = 0
drill batteries = 3

We seem to have a lot in common with our black rigs with Maverick badges and Heritage Representation Flags on the back window... :thumb:

The previous owner liked chrome, apparently, and that rubbed off on me. I have a chrome exhaust tip as well...

How did I miss this one.....

Very nice car, must admit they do suit black very well, indeed I wanted a black Mav, but ended up with the Gold Ash one instead..

As for your mods, well I would go for the following, bodywork wise..

1, clear side repeat indicators (easy, cheap mod, they are the same as the latterday Ford Escorts, Rangers etc got mine on eBay for £6/pair)

2, paint the bumpers and side cladding black, to match the bodywork, which imho would work with your car, but alas not on mine..

3, American rear lights, to give a twin reverse light at the back, and so enable you to remove those awful rear bumpermounted reflectors (yet to do that with mine)

4, chrome sidesteps, to match the a-bar.

BTW, where did you get the a-bar, want one for mine now after seeing your pictures... :thumb:

i got the bull bar from MR bullbar.ie its an irish company, the bar itself is for a mazda tribute but the company who manufacture it said it would fit maverick :D and it does. The accessories are from various places. Im in two minds over getting the lower cladding painted black i like the whole two tone thing, but at the same time the amount of black to black i need to use to get a nice shine off it is annoying as hell, i like the American lights front (04 onwards) and rear they do look so much beter. hooked up L.E.D's behind the door handle if you want to have a nosie at them aswell :p. The clear side repeat indicators is a mod i want to do but i found stick on vents that would look cracking and similar to that of the land rover discovery with the indicator embedded in it.

Must admit, I would like the "twin headlamp" units on my Maverick, although it would appear that it's not a straightforward swapover..

Mods that I would like to do, (Wifey permitting) are as follows...

4X spotlights mounted on the front of the roofrack.

Front O/E rubber A bar or in Stainless Steel.

Uprated speakers in the doors (but keeping the OE head unit).

Front and Rear Lamp Protectors in metal (as found on Freelanders, etc).

Rectangular front / rear reg plates.

Bonnet mounted Bug Deflector in "smoked" finish.

Must admit though, yours is looking good, esp with the front A- Bar ;)

Yeh i like the way the A bar is i got the insperation for my parents Hyundai Santafe, there front bar is pretty similar to the way mines is except i have a chrome surround round my regi plate and my regi plate is offset onto the bar to give it a bit of a blended look, and i have amber LED's where as his are just bulbs :p

the twin headlight would be a great modification to do and would enable me to wire up my driving lamps on my bar :D:D might need to look into that after i get the interior trim sorted, want to change the interior to a lighter colour, its currently black and i want either cream or beige more towards cream, trying to source out spare interior parts to see what its like without messing up my interior trim.

ive changed the head unit to a pioneer double din (thanks to this great forum for help in fitting it) so audio/video wise i wanna put beter speakers in and possibly an amp in the back hidden out the way, monitors on the head rests (again this will be getting done when the seats are getting changed to hopefully leather. cant beat sitting in traffic watching the mask :D (hand brake is on of course)

your maverick would look nice with the smoked bug deflector

not sure how the maverick would look with with the guards on the lights its a wierd one, it'll either look good .. or not so good, opinions vary.

A lift kit is something i really want preferably a 2" one if possible but thats in the future for now.

the spotlights on the roof would look YUMMY :p

the rectagular reg plates? maverick came standard with them did they not, mines did anyways i swapped the front for a square as you can see in the pics.

think your gonna have to be really nice to the little mrs in order to get your new toys :D lol
