I ordered a MacBook Pro through Apple for school in the fall on Sunday (with the obnoxious amount of graduation money I got :D ) and it came yesterday!! My case came for it this morning, and I'm good to go. It's SO nice and gorgeous. I got the 15" with an upgraded hard drive.

Here's a picture

and here's a picture of the case I bought for it

I got the education discount since I'm a college student now, and a free iPod touch and Casio printer (well, full rebates :) ) also! My printer's still not here, but my iPod touch came on Tuesday and I love it. Just thought I'd share

Congratulations on the new laptop Erica! That case looks nice.

My visual perception, is that an attractive young lady, such as yourself is entitled to a beautiful laptop.

Henceforth the analysis of compatibility. :) :thumb:

I love both of them! Macs are so user friendly and I can't wait to download more apps for my iPod  for the past 5 years I've had the old school iPod mini and a hand-me down HP, so this is all very exciting for me :D

I all honesty, I'd probably be happy with the old school HP. I have none currently, all though I used to have a Sony Viao laptop when they were new. Of course, that's like prehistoric to you, nine or ten years ago...

Of course they can! Macs can actually run Windows Vista more efficiently than a PC can. Macs come with Boot Camp, which can simultaneously run either Windows or Mac OS, or specific programs from Windows (Microsoft Word, for example) while running the Mac OS, or you can purchase the Parallels program that is capable of running them side by side :D

I'm going to use Boot Camp in the fall to use Microsoft Word for papers and such

Yes it can. You can use an Apple program called Boot Camp to install a copy of Windows. With Boot Camp, you are running one OS or the other. You don't run them simultaneously. There are also "Virtual Machines", like a program called Parallels, that let you run Windows within OS-X. These VM's work well from what I've seen...

Hmm...I'll have to say that makes no sense to me.

All the major components are the same, in fact, Apple is simply an OEM like most PC companies - ODMs put their hardware together. I'm not sure who does Apple's hardware, but the biggest players are Quantas and Compal (not to be confused with Compaq). An HP laptop and a Dell laptop could very well come from the same factory, and the difference would be in case design and quality control, something that Apple seems to excel at. All the major components work largely the same way, aside from the fact that Apple uses an EFI while most PCs use a BIOS (which is why a boot loader is required to run Windows on a Mac, and why Apple's OS will not run out-of-the-box on a PC). If you were referring to that test by Popular Mechanics, they had a faster processor in the Mac, which was actually a new design ahead of the processor used in the PC (Penryn vs. Merom). In that case it just simply ran Vista faster rather than more efficiently.

Hello Erica,

Congratulations on your new purchases, and recent graduation! I was in your exact spot 365 days ago, and I can safely say that college is a great time, and you will LOVE your new Macbook Pro! I have a Macbook Pro as well, and think it has been my best purchase thus far in my life. Yes, it was an even better purchase than my Escape! :worry:

I would recommend that you just use Word for Mac, as it is truthfully MUCH BETTER than booting into windows, just to write a paper!

Haha oh well. Either way, Macs can run Windows just as well, if not better, and in my opinion PCs are inferior :D
  UUMM! AAAH!

My brother has a desktop, and it suits his circumstances. Even though i be a laptop enthusiast, can anticipate and do respect desktops for their advantages. As for my lifestyle, a desktop would have had it's use, but i just do not have the room for it.

I know this sounds odd to people, but i actually do not have, enough space to accomodate a Desktop. Henceforth, this is why i have only ever had laptops. The battery was removed from Toshiba. My " Satellite " is permanently plugged to a surge protection, power board via house electrical socket. The other surge protection , is in the house mains switchboard fuse box.

We periodically have, random electrical storms as in lightning. On these scenarios, the notebook is unplugged from electical socket. I don't use it at all during lightning periods. Not willing, to take a chance on it being spiked.

 Anthony, that is what I meant haha. I have to buy a mandatory undergraduate student software package through Tech, which has Microsoft Word 08 for Mac and all the other stuff I'd need like that. The bundle itself is $103 (with tax) and once I graduate the software becomes my property :D

Stone, I didn't mean desktops are inferior. Apple makes desktops too, and my dad has an HP laptop. But I just love Macs

Macs have that sleek alu-meen-ium case and that two-finger scrolling is so nifty. BUT I can't justify the price for one.
