Taking my Mariner into the dealership today. Very loud whirring sound coming from front tire(s)...hubby thinks it's a loose bearing...??? I hope it's not tooooo expensive to fix. :worry:

Did you try having your Tink sprinkle some dust on it?

Just took my escape in for a humming / buzzing tire type noise last week, it turned out to be front bearings and outer tie rods  $680

Hope yours is something less

No, my warranty has been long gone. :(

Just curious, is there a certain mileage when wheel bearings go out?? My Mariner has 57k.

By the description (over the interwebs), it sure sounds like a wheel bearing that should be fairly inexpensive as repairs go, as long as the tie rods are good to go. Hope it's just the wheel bearing. Not too uncommon for a number of vehicles. Good luck.

Just heard from dealership. To summarize, left wheel bearing bad, right one starting to go bad ... instead of ordering hub assembly will repress bearings to save me a ton of money. Then a front end alignment after all that. Total cost $830 plus tax. Oh, also tie rod ends are ripped ....if I want to get those fixed it'd be an extra $250. Hmm....not great news but really wasn't expecting any. Should I take it some place else for another estimate?
