I am new here and thought I would show a few pictures of my 2005 "SVT" Escape V6 4WD. I have installed an AFE Cold air intake with an S&B open-top filter with a 7in. inlet diameter. The exhaust is Magnaflow's cat-back system. I have the four wheel disc brakes upgraded with hybrid ceramic pads and NAPA performance rotors. I have installed a set of Eibach lowering springs and MOOG sway bar links to improve handling, best thing I ever did. I run Castrol Syntec EDGE 5w-20 and BG's full synthetic transmission fluid. Tire pressure's are up from 32psi to 35psi. The above modifications have paid off well with an average highway fuel economy of 27mpg @ 70mph. It will scream when you stomp on it though and throttle response is a hair trigger. There are several minor cosmetic additions as well. I have yet to install an HID kit due to funds but have installed Sylvania SiverStar Ultra high beams and SilverStar low beams. I have Halo's Extreme White fogs with just a touch of blue. In-channel vent-visors are on all the windows. All of the windows have been tinted with various levels of transparency, 5% is not legal on the front two windows in my area. A few vinyl graphics adorn the windows and a short antenna resides on the hood (carwash destroyed the OEM antenna). An OEM Ford bug guard guards the hood. Nothing too fancy or extravagant but it's my baby. I would love to get a set of the black painted 17in OEM rims with the machined aluminum trim that are on the new Escapes. I am having a bit of difficulty uploading pictures here but here is a link to my facebook picture album. Enjoy! I welcome all comments and questions!

Looks good, but I really don't understand why you would want to LOWER an SUV. Maybe more money then brains. I don't get people buying a truck or something made to get dirty and then lower it and put rims on the thing and then it is no longer capable of being used like a truck.

Pointless IMO.

Hmmm,

Obviously I don't share that opinion. Everyone has got their own idea of what looks good and if preferable to them.

I live in South Florida. It does not snow. There are no wide open spaces to go 4x4ing. So street is what we have.

Lower greatly improves the handling on the street and I think it looks better than the stock setup.

But you don't have to like it.

Also remember that the Escape is actually a Mazda 626 platform with a truck body on it so it is much closer to a car than a truck.

I just want everyone to know that all Ford Escapes from 2001-2011 have factory cold air intakes and that any modification of that will usually cause lower performance. They all pull cold air from either the front hood or under the driver side head light. I think you could expect 5-10hp from a cat back. And 10-15hp from custom manifolds and less restrictive cats.

I really like the cold air intake. I wouldn't mind trying something like that on mine.

Don't it will only hurt your performance. Instead of sucking cold air from outside the engine bay that setup will pull hot air from the engine bay. It's called heat soak and will hurt your performance. If you want a better intake swap out the OEM filter for a K&N high flow filter. Or buy a true Cold air Intake that will move the filter out side the engine bay and allow you to run a Cone filter.

Thanks for the compliments. I have been without a computer for a while. Mine decided it no longer liked living. As for how much horsepower and torque I have gained I could not give you exact numbers but my throttle response is through the roof and my in-town and highway mileage improved from 16 and 23 to 19.5 and 25. If I lead-foot it everywhere the mileage in town is about 18. I have averaged over 27 mpg on the freeway more than once. I get looks frequently when I cruise by, as it does sound nice and deep, for a V6. Though we do get our fair share of snow I feel that lowering the Escape was the single best modification I have made yet. It now has no wallow or floating when hitting dips on the freeway and it absorbs bumps with much more poise and grace. Not to mention that I can now take freeway ramps at 70mph. This past winter was one for the record books and it got through it with nary a hesitation. I personally like the new stance and isn't that what this is all about, personalizing your vehicle to represent a physical manifestation of one's own personality? There may be more to come. I am considering purchasing a used Kenne Bell Supercharger set-up and a new set of wheels.
