Sorry, your post is confusing. I'm not 100% sure what you are asking so I'd guess others are confused too. Did you lose your headlights or the lighting for your instrument panel? When you say "2nd click turns on the HL", that sounds like you can get your head lights working so I'm not sure why you can't drive home...

Sorry i wrote it quickly and i made sense to me then, now that i read it it doesn't make sense.

Okay....
On the turn knob thing there are three settings (off) One click up (dash lights on, back lights{I don't mean revers lights} on and the front side markers) two clicks up ( all this dash lights on, back lights on and the front side markers PLUS the headlights turn on.

my problem is the dash lights, back lights and the front side markers don't come on at all.

I was driving the worked then i smelt a funny smell and i thought nothing then i looked down and the dash lights were out.

I checked some fusees but didn't find any blown

Sounds like you have an electrical short somewhere. Did the funny smell seem like an electrical smell? If you don't know what I mean, it's impossible for me to explain. I honestly don't know anything about car electrical systems and can't help. I'm just trying to get more info in case someone more knowledgeable happens to see this....

Since there was electrical smell and the culprit is hard to locate, I would not drive the car until a car electrician has a look at it. As an extra precaution I would disconnect the battery negative terminal every time the car is parked.

I hope it's an easy fix. Like I said, my guess is a short somewhere. I'm curious to know...

Since you say you smelled something funny inside the car, my guess would be a problem (short) in the stalk. It's the only moving part of the headlight system, therefore it gets worn and the contacts wear out or short out. That would be my guess anyway. Hope ya get it fixed.

SO :censor: turned out being the euro side marker harness that wasn't connected because its a Canadian suv. Anyway I had the escape out wheeling a year ago and i ended up ripping the right wheel well plastic out that exposed the unused harness and with all the salt, snow and ice here in snow country Canada it rotted away at the wires and shorted it out. To sum it up I rented a car the partsss will be in tomorrow and i will have a 500+ bill to pay for having a little fun out in the back country. :bust:

Thank you guy  Your great

DOH!!! That was a costly trip! Glad you had fun at least. Never would have guessed that. Thanks for keeping us posted and updated. Are they going to fix the wheel well along with the harness so this doesn't happen again?

That didn't fix the problem was good for about 1 hour than buzzzit  shes back at the ford dealer, they are paying for the rental car so I am not to unhappy. I only hope i don't get charged for the work again :S
If it's because of their misdiagnosis, then you should only have to pay for additional needed parts, and not a penny more for labor.

Problem Was very minor the front right head light was disconnected when Ford was working on it and it sparked causing the fuse to blow.

As of today everything is working fine. Other then the oil pan gasket that i will be fixing when the warmer weather comes.

I have been had the same problem twice now and each time it was related to the after market trailer harness. Once it was removed it was a couple fuses and a switch to fix. If you have 2004 Escape you fall into the only year that does not easily get an aftermarket harness. You must have it done by a dealer to have the correct one installed.
