I'm planning on doing some updating to the interior of my car. As you can see I already added the black leather kickpanels, chrome handles, and wood trim. Now I want to focus on the quality of touch - I'm sick of the leather and hard plastic on the doors.

Here is the interior as it stands now:

I'm thinking of having the following sections of the door wrapped in either leather or alcantara by a high quality custom automotive interior shop.

I'm really bad at visualizing things. I'm going for as much of a "factory" look as I can get - no crazy colors or overbearing contrast. I'm undecided as to both the color and material. I don't want to do black because I think it will look out of place. I was thinking that maybe a darker brown than the door panel is might work nicely and look stock. I don't think that would look good for the bottom panel though.

Any suggestions?

I think a brown color would look nice....it'll go w/the woodgrain trim. Think it'll look good on the bottom part too. :thumb:

Hello computerpro3. Yes i am picturing what Dasha is suggesting. A darker brown as contrast should have a good effect.

I like the dark brown.

But if you think that it's too dark, you could try to match the color of the Limited's console, lock, and gauge surround bezels, like this:

Hmmm I think I like that better. It's more understated and I think the lighter color would look better in Alcantara.

I don't know how feasible it is in terms of cost (I'm expecting it will be four figures), but I'm thinking of getting the top inserts on each door done in alcantara and the bottom map holder area done in the same color leather (probably something like the your picture Jpark). Then, I'm thinking of having the shop wrap the rest of the door (armrest area and area areound the inserts) with leather that's the identical color to the stock tan. That should take care of the touch issues.

The other car that I spend a lot of time in is my father's Audi A8L and the doors are absolutely sumptuous compared to the Escape.

There is not one piece of hard plastic on that entire door - everything is either Alcantara or leather (with a little bit of VERY soft vinyl I think). I already have extensive sound deadening inside the doors of the Escape so at least they feel solid like the Audi's. Now if I can only get them to be soft like them....

I know, but the material is REALLY cheap. I'd rather pay a bit more and get real alcantara and leather.
