Hi, Im new here as me and my brother just bought an '03 escape xls to replace our aging '91 escort lx.

anyway, onto the airbag light...

We were running several wires from the amplifier to the cd player in the dash.
We used a coat hanger to guide the wires up from the passenger "foot area." Soon after we finished running the wires, we noticed that the airbag light was flashing and then stays on.

Is it possible we accidentaly unplugged or damaged a wire or plug thats related to the airbag behind the dash?

I'd rather try to fix something myself than to take it to ford, unless I really have to.

Thanks for the help

I'm not sure what's behind the dash but it might be possible. I know there are connectors under my front seats for the airbags that can come loose. I had put a small 10 lb modular weight set (in a small case) under my passenger seat and was getting a warning light. The case would occasionally lean on or sit on the airbag wire connection and cause the light to illuminate. All I had to do was remove the weight set and push the connections back together and I haven't seen the warning light since. I'm glad I figured that out because my stealership wanted to charge me several hundred dollars to replace a sensor somewhere that I now know wasn't a problem...

Robert sent you in the right direction. There are two TSBs out on the connector and airbag warning system. The plugs are subject to poor connections. Sliding things under the seats is all it takes. The best thing to do is trace your path and check the wires and connections along that path.

Thanks for the welcome,

I haven't had time to mess around with the wires yet, but I've noticed that it flashes 4 times, goes off for a few seconds, then flashes 7 times and repeats....

...All are good suggestions, but I would also suggest, that if your 'Scape has a sensor for the passenger seat (as shown on picture) that you check the plug on the bezel... when you remove it to work the radio or so, this then not to plug right in, check it, and make sure the car is off, not on or after you plug it in back on, make sure you reboot your vehicle (lol). :hyst:

it does not have that... it has a bigger pocket on the far left and the only buttons are the defrost and the 4 way blinker on the right side.

Well, I finally had some time to check the airbag connection plugs under the seats.

I disconnected both and plugged them back in like most of you told me to, and now I magically have no airbag light!

Thanks to everyone for the help. :thumb:
