OK, I finally got up the nerve to order a Ford Oval overlay to change my oval color from blue to black. I had hesitated on doing this due to the fact I thought it might look a little cheesy. So here are a couple of pictures of the "changeover", let me know what you think.

Before Picture comparing the original with the change:

"During" picture, I used a lot of Windex to slide the overlay into place and smooth out all air bubbles:

"After" picture, soooooo- was it worth it????

Hi all, thanks for all the feedback! I agree Weebee, it would look great on your Edge!
andjayik, if you're interested in getting one, I ordered mine from here:

the front oval cost me about $7 and the rear one was about the same ($6.50 I think). Hope that helps!

Yes, mine is gloss black background with chrome letters. Application is pretty simple, I just sprayed the area heavily with windex, put the vinyl overlay on, slid it into place (as long as you have the windex on, the sticker will slide around so you can get it placed perfectly). As far as air bubbles, I really didn't have much of a problem with that, once the windex started to dry and the overlay didn't slide so much, I just pressed out any bubbles with my fingertips. Took less than 10 minutes.

If you look closely at the second picture, I took that after I had it placed where I wanted but the sides and bottom weren't quite finished yet, as the windex dried out I was able to press those areas down with no problems and no bubbles.

Yes, it is basically a vinyl sticker that just goes on top on the original oval. I have an 08 and I ordered the 6.25 inch for the front and the 5 inch for the back. Seems like pretty durable material but I guess time will tell!!

Well, if you have a very steady hand and are very sure of yourself, you can just put the overlay sticker on without the windex. I do not have that much confidence to do it that way so the best way to put stickers on I have found is to spray the area with windex (original formula), in this case you will be spraying the original BLUE oval (after you have cleaned it).

After you have coated the original BLUE oval peel the backing off the NEW overaly. You can place the overlay (which is sticky on the back) on top of the windex coated BLUE oval, the overlay will slide until the windex dries (you will have about one minute of good slippery time, plenty enough time to get the new oval centered). In my case the windex took a little more time to dry on the bottom and sides so you just have to keep gently pressing to see when it will actually "stick".

After the windex dries, it will be as if you never had any on in the first place (like magic!! lol), the sticker is on there and will not come off (unless you start peeling it intentionally).

The instructions you get say to apply at room temperature (btwn 55 and 75 degrees) and says cold weather is not recommended because adhesive won't adhere in cold temp's. :frozen: That wasn't a problem for me as the temps here got up to 90 yesterday!! OK, hope that answers all your questions!!
