hi everybody, i just wanted to introduce myself. i'm about to be picking up an 07 xlt escape in the green/grey/brown color (same color as my 05 expedition, still trying to figure out the exact color) which i'm getting as a trade for my 05 lifted expedition 4x4. its 2wd and has the 4 cylinder, but for florida (at least north florida) that'll be fine, there arn't many places to go four-wheeling and all of them i'll be able to reach with the escape. my whole world revolves around the beach (and activities that it includes) and my job as an air force mechanic.

now as far as the escape, i plan on a roof rack (I have an older yakima rack i'm gonna try to get to fit) for my kayak, 255/70/16 a/t tires, tinted window, tail light guards, grill guard (maybe bull bar i dunno yet), and a stereo. i'm thinking as far as the stereo goes, i'll probably just upgrade the factory sub and amp if it has one, and throw in an ipod ready hu.

i drove this escape alot last year after my grandfather passed away, and now that my folks are wanting to sell it i decided to trade and have them sell my gas guzzling, too big for most trails, excess for florida, mom-mobile. i love the expedition (best car i've owned to date) but i dont need to spend money for 8 seats when i usually need no more than 3 or 4.

i like this board alot, and am gonna enjoy being a part of it! surfscape, your escape was the first one i saw with off road tires and i loved it. amazing vehicle.

Which part of north Florida? We have a place in Sarasota. Siesta Key Beach, Lido Beach, and St. Armand's are a few of my favorite places on this planet.

i'm in panama city florida at tyndall afb. i'm also an aircraft mechanic on the f15. i just moved here from san antonio (this is my first base, i grew up in san antonio) in february. i used to go down to corpus christi texas almost every weekend to have fun on the beach (where you can actually drive on the beach) so i've grown acustomed to the beach... have to say i absolutly love it here. when i get out, i may move out to port st. joe

The earlier Escapes were great beach cruisers - light weight and you could lock the system into a pseudo 4WD. The heaver trucks would sink into the sand unless they ran under 15 PSI in the tires.

The '05s up got an updated AWD system that couldn't be locked anymore, but was supposed to be superior anyways. You have the FWD so that doesn't matter, but I have had my FWD Escape on the beach countless times as well as through water crossings, and never had to air down my tires.

yea i had always figured as long as i got the front wheels goin it shouldn't be too bad in the sand. if i can ever track down a wrecked 4wd one, i'll try to get the traansmission and parts to make it 4wd, but until then, fwd should be fine
