I love my plates...HATE the new Empire Gold. They should've brought back the Statue of Liberty plates. I would probably change to those althought i really like the ones we have now. Would like nice on my Escape

Do you guys have different options for plates or just one set plate for everyone? NE has one set plate. My gma lives in NV and they have over 10 different plates to choose from.

MN has about 15-20 different passenger vehicles plates on the DMV site. More if you count "other" vehicles and the many different veteran and college plates.

The new plates are exactly the same orange color as the plates NYS had in the 80s, except for the curvy blue thing and the font for NEW YORK and EMPIRE STATE.

NYS also has dozens of other plate designs, but they're all extra-cost. Maybe I'll get Sabres or Bandits plates this time around.

Other than distinguishing NYS plates from the states around us, I have no clue why they went back to a plate color that only looks good on black cars. Luckily, that's us, but still...

In Montana just about every non profit group has their own plate plus vanity plates. there are so many to choose from :shades:

I reckon that the yellow NYS plates of the 80s were the more distinct around...and I liked them.

I moved to NJ from NY so I did not have to succumb to those mustard plates. I liked the white ones and loved the old liberty ones. I agree they do look better on black or dark blue cars, but that's it. New Jersey plates are just arlight, but much better than the Empire Gold Ones.

I think they should all go to the tags used in Europe. Ugly white with black lettering. Either that or the two foot tall numbering down the sides... eace:

I don't know that I would own a car in NYC.

As for outside the city, I'm with you...the gold is just ugly. :yes:

I'm in agreement; the new NY plates are terribly ugly. I much prefer the previous design.

I'll be in Rochester in a few weeks and those ugly mustard-yellow plates will be offending my eyes throughout the entire trip!
