Finally took her on the highway, 21 mpg on a 51 mile trip. I'm gonna go on another highway trip probably next weekend to confirm. Still getting 17.6 to 18.6 in city and at one point got to 19 mpg
I guess I'm missing something here... because I've run three tanks of gas thru my '09 V6 Escape (purchased pre-owned on 4/09/10) and I'm averaging 24.02 MPG now -- with just a new K&N filter installed in the stock box.

BTW, not trying to hijack this thread, but would the Weapon-R CAIs work on a 2009 Escape? I have seen lots of mentions of 2008's, but have not seen any air intake mods for a 2009 V6.
Okay something is not adding up. I am getting 21 to 22 mpg with a stock air box with the tube removed. This is all city miles or stop and go. on long trips I have averaged 25 to 26. That just under 400 miles I have traveled. I am going to do my own expermenting in the next few weeks. Let you guys know what I come up with.

But on a nother note everone is right the cooler the air the better it works. Worm air = a loss in power and cool air = a gain in power. no matter how you find it or can get it.
awd or fwd? because fwd's should get much better mileage. my dad has a 05 escape v6 awd and gets 17-18 city 21 hwy. my 05 2.3l gets like 19 city 24 hwy if I'm driving conservative. been thinking of getting the weapon r for the 2.3l

I will let you know as soon as I get mine Wednesday. I got one with GAS SAVER, LOW OCTANE PERFORMANCE, AND HIGH OCTANE PERFORMANCE.
Oh nice. I was just about to order both a weapon r and xcal3. Just didnt know if the weapon r would be worth the extra money if it didnt add any mpg's beyond the xcal3 got. I mean I'm thinking it should do maybe 1-2 more...maybe, since it will breathe easier.

Have you ever edited or changed any settings in your tunes? shift points, shift harshness, spark etc?

having a 2.3l its...kind of tight space. The 1 piece welded design of the weapon r flows much better than a pieced together kit I would make on my own. I have a k&n drop in, maybe just that with the xcal would be fine. Update us how your mileage is.

Just found the big problem with any intake for my GF's Escape 2.0L Zetec: The mass-air-flow sensor tube is so small that it will likely negate any noticable gains to be had from high-flow filters, larger/smoother tubing, larger throttle body, etc. The Weapon-R intake uses the factory MAF sensor pipe right in the middle :lightning:
Gotta be a way around that...
spectre makes a MAF housing that works.
