How come when quoting someone who used a "Smile" (emoticon) it appears in the qoute in script form and not as the actual "Smile"?

Can you give me an example? I can fix that if I know exactly what it's doing.
In the thread "LED dome light WooHoo" page 3 Scooter used "smiles"only in 2 posts, I quoted him and his "smiles" showed-up as text. It only happens when the post is a emoticon only. When quoted they show-up as text. If the emoticon is used in a statement, it shows up as the emoticon.

Guess what? It looks like there's actually a bug in the forum software. If you begin any quote with a smily, the system is expecting a space in front of a smiley. When it doesn't find one (since the system trims spaces off of the beginning and end of each post), it can't find the smiley code.

Lemme see if phpbb has anyone else complaining about that.

Thanks!

It's only when you quote a line that begins with a smiley.

It got very busy this afternoon, so I didn't have a chance to look at the code. I'm sure it's something simple.
