If you have a E/M/T question, please ask. I am going to a clinic this evening, and can ask the mechanic what ever you may want to know. Not a lets see if we can trip up the mechinic type thing. I'm looking for an honest issue that you haven't got the answer for yet.

My other post about this is in things you are thankful for.

I'm thankful for the really nice mechanics and service personnel at our local Hiley Mazda dealership. They were very kind and helpful on our visit yesterday. Even tolerated my questions and thought that I was funny! Silly people. I asked so many questions that they invited me back tomorrow (today) for a clinic on taking care of The Big Red 1 after the service policy runs out this next year.

Any questions guys? If you have one, send it to me and I will ask it.

Yep, here's a question that keeps cropping up.

My Maverick suffers from "erratic idling", replaced vacuum hose, and the 2 senser things (Maf and can't remember the name of the other one)

No engine check light showing.

is it the brake servo gone bad

cheers ;)

Camus- The only thing they could come up with based on what you told me is that the IAC is probably the issue. But I am thinking that is the second item you could not think of the name to, the one you named being MAF. They said they would have to have it in their shop to make an accurate survey of the car. Hmm. I asked about the check engine light and the brake servo, but they were not thinking that had anything to do with the issue.

Thanks very much for asking the question, much appreciated :thumb:

Today, armed with the info from your last post, I dismantled the air intake system to gain access to the MAF sensor.
Cleaned it all up using Carburetor cleaner, then reassembled it .

Car runs a heck of a lot smoother now, although the sensor was covered in a thick black coating of gunge  prior to cleaning...

Will investigate the IAC tomorrow...........

Good deal. I and others with early decade Fords have issues with our IACs. Especially the 4.6L V-8 Mustangs. I'm not hearing too much out of the F-150 crowd or the Crown Victoria owners. But the IAC seems to have some issues on Fords. They sometimes get stuck in position. If the idle seems to run unusually high, it's probably the IAC. Then again, I thought I had an IAC issue back in 2006, and it turned out to be the ECM had failed. It was operating under some default setting. ECM :$650.00. Warranty: priceless... ;)

I hope yours is just the IAC. :peace:

Next time they take questions, ask them why Ford won't put amber rear signals on all of their North American vehicles.

And another question to ask, if you don't mind....................

"WHICH :censor: CRETIN DECIDED TO LOCATE THE IAC VALVE UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, SO IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE IAC FOR CLEANING, YOU HAVE TO DISMANTLE THE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY, DISCONNECT FUEL AND VACUUM PIPES, AND REMOVE THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND AIR INTAKE ASSEMBLY."

:censor: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:      :wall: :wall:

On the V6, the IAC is so easy to get to, why did they have to relocate it for the "poor man's version" of the Escape.

Yep, thought I'd clean the IAC today, but after spending over 1/2 an hour locating the :censor: thing, then working out how to access the top bolt without having to perform a drastic dissassembly of the engine, 4 ciggies and 2 cups of coffee persuaded me to say "sod it", and leave it for another day (or even the Mavericks next owner :calvin: )

 already grew a new lawn last year, from seed, not turf :thumb:

over here, the term "sod it" is used as a more polite version of "f%[email protected] it", whilst still expressing the frustration of the person involved........................................

Anyhow, managed today to actually remove the IAC, clean it up, and for good measure i also cleaned the throttle body.

Wow, my car now runs 100% better, well worth the effort...........

I'm a relativley happy bunny now, but will have to get the "Brake chatter" issue resolved now, probably new discs required

Good for you Camus!

Yeah, I think chatter will probably be disk replacements. Especially if they have been turned once already.
