Id like to add an additional 12v socket to my 2010 tribute. Easiest way to do this?

Also Im interested in adding an ipod connector to the factory radio. Any ideas here?

Is there a manual available anywhere to help me disassemble the dash without destroying anything?

Don't you already have an audio-in jack (lower console, right side)? This is a mini-stereo-phone jack, 1/8" dia; you may need to get the patch cord. Then, plug into the ipod phone jack and turn up the ipod volume, or plug into your ipod dock if you have one.

Or, are you wanting to install a USB connection (that would be difficult to impossible to retro-fit, I would think)?

For your 12V outlet, maybe ask for a multi-outlet at a parts store?

Where do you want to add a socket at? You can get the loose 12v plug from like radio shack or even like lowes/home depot. Then tap Into a 12v source like the cigarette outlet ad its already laid out dor you ready to be tapped

I do. It works fine to play ipod but the ipod connector charges the ipod as well as allows you to skip tracks with the radio controls and most importantly for me it starts and stops playing automatically when the vehicle is turned off and on.

I had a radio in my last vehcile I bought jsut for this connector and it only cost $100. Id rather not have to put that in the tribute though, as then Id have to get a dash kit and retool the look of the vehicle. Was hoping there might be a way to tap in with the current system.

Would like a second one in the front. Dont necessarily need to mount it (although that would be nice if I could manage that). I have an adapter I can use to crimp on to the current wires - just was hoping there was a schematics of the console somewhere so I could take it apart to get back in there - without breaking anything in the process.

Depending on what you plan to run off that 12v outlet I might be a little picky on just what wire you tap into. Find a wire on a circuit that will be able to handle the amperage or you'll be blowing fuses. (Or worse, not blow a fuse. :lightning: )

If I remember correctly the cigarette lighter uses 15 amp fuse and the 12v plug is 20 amps. (Don't ask me how I found that out. :lol: :lightning: )

A Haynes manual probably would show how to take the dash out. I have one for my '01 and think it's great, fortunately I've never really had to rely on it, but I've found it to be very interesting to browse through and see how everything comes apart. I seem to remember a section in mine on removing the dash.

As far as the IPOD connector goes. You have to make sure your radio will interface with the IPOD as most radios will not as Apple has a nasty habbit of making their systems proprietary. My friend got a new Subi and paid the $100 extra from the dealer to get the OEM IPOD attachment and it does not work, they had it replaced a few times but the interface was patchy at best. Now, I know the radio in my 2010 Escape (with sync) says it will interface with an IPOD via the input jack or with the onboard USB connector. With the USB connector it will just treat the IPOD as a portable HD.
