Did you check the problems and solutions?

It's been discussed before. If I had the time, I'd find a link or two for you. Pretty busy now, just passing through on a spare minute...

Most of the previous problems here have been with the door lock actuator. Yours may have a tiny bit of life left in it - try pressing the unlock button several times to see if the rear hatch will unlock so you can get the trim off. There was one post in here where one person peeled back the trim enough to grab onto the lock mechanism and manually unlock the hatch, but I can't find it.

Wish I'd have gotten to you sooner. I just fixed mine yesterday with a universal actuator. Works like new and only cost me $7.50 shipped to my door. It was actually a lot easier to rig up than I expected. I'll have to post the picture I took of it.

Wow, $130! I replaced two in the Escort's front doors and they were only around $30 from the junkyard. Lubricate the entire assembly inside the hatch when you replace the actuator to keep from burning out the new one.

The reason it's that much is due to the fact that he's getting the entire assembly, not just the actuator. What a rip off.

Well, I did end up getting the assembaly, but for a real good price because I have a connection with the Ford garage in my town. Dad is real good friends with the guy that handles all the parts being ordered. Got it for 79.99 instead of 129.99 and got it the next day. :)

Real easy install.. It got stuck in the locked position so I just had to peel the rear pannel and open it manualy. The whole process took all of about 10 minutes.
