Hey everyone,
I have a 2006 Escape XLT with factory keyless entry. Question for anyone out there, do you have any recommendations for a remote start system with keyless entry (doesn't matter if it comes with security system, not something I "need" to have with the system) for these SUV's? Also, with the factory keyless entry, how does this work with a remote start that comes with keyless entry? I guess, does the remote start/keyless entry just swap out with the factory keyless entry? I've found several different types of system on http://www.sonicelectronix.com (both with and without the security system) but wasn't sure which model might be better or worse than another. Thanks for any help/advice.

On top of that... are there any "plug n play" remote starters? Like that plug into the ecu as a piggy back or in between the harness and ecu so theres no splicing needed?
I was kinda hoping the factory kits would be relatively plug and play, but at least for the 08+, there is still quite a bit of work involved and about just as much wiring as an aftermarket kit. Would of been nice if it was as simple as piggybacking a harness or 2 and just routing + mounting the antenna. Not the case though.

i was kind of curious about this as well. I am looking to get a remote starter for my wife's 06 tribute and haven't found much info out on the internets. I have been searching thru this site for a while and you all have some GREAT info. I know the electrical on my 06 xterra pretty well but don't know much on hers.

I have the same question. What would you recommend for a 2006 tribby w/ keyless entry and NO factory alarm?

Not something I would ever add to my vehicle, but I would say don't go cheap on the device or the install. This is wired into the ignition of your vehicle. (You need that part!) Wired wrong or improperly installed this could be a big head ache later. You should not need to warm up your vehicle more than a few seconds before driving it, any more than that is not good for the environment or the vehicle.

I've put in a bulldog system on my old zx2, wired it up right and it worked great... planning on putting one in my escape eventually, but not sure which brand i'll go with.. I do know i'll be getting a kit that also does the locks and such, since i don't want to FOB's on my keyring...

I recently had a viper 5902 combo starter and alarm installed. there was some extensive wiring to be done to have all the options that i wanted active. I must say that i coundn't be more pleased to have it over winter. The rear defrost option works great , I also had window automation installed for the summer. As far as the alarm half, its the part with the most wiring adding new relays and such, but it was worth it for my peace of mind. If options are not what your looking for there is plenty of just starters out there all which can be installed with little work and rewiring.

my mom had an after market system in her 03 limited that the dealership installed. i dont know many details about make and model but the problem we had is some how it was wired into the number 5 coil pack and burnt it out three times before the tech at another dealership figured out the problem. warranty paid the first one, the dealership paid one and we had to pay one.
point of the story make sure the installer back up their work.

I just had a Compustar 2-Way Car Alarm/Starter Combo (2W8000FMASF) installed in my 08 Excape XLT and I absolutely love it. works amazing and the range is unbelievable. I work in a factory and after I park it takes me 10 minutes to walk through the factory to get to my station. After walking the distance the remote still picks up signal and I can start my vehicle from there. By the time you get to it, its nice a warm :) It was installed by futureshop, they have a lifetime warranty on their install so Im happy. The alarm feature is also a great thing to have.

The system I mentioned get 5000 ft range. There are some great addons you can get also for your alarm system. Maybe in the future when I have the money. This alarm/starter with installation cost me $800. Pricey but worth the money to me. If anybody is interested in more info or anything on this system just let me know. thanks
