Hi I live in Australia and my Escape's aerial has decided to stop coming up and down when I turn the car on/off.My Escape was made in Japan.
I have been told that to replace it with genuine ford parts will be approx $600 for the parts and fitting. :worry:
Has anyone replaced one of these and if they have did they use genuine or aftermarket parts.
Can anyone tell me where to get a cheaper option?
HELP PLEASE HELP!
Thanks

In the states, the aerial (or antenna as we call it) is fixed. It doesn't raise/lower. I don't recall seeing anyone else with this problem so you might not get many replies. I wonder if you could replace it with an aftermarket fixed aerial. Not sure what's available in your area though. Good luck figuring it out.

hey there

i'm having the same problem! i guess in Australia the escape antennas are powered and would extend and retract when the radio is turned on. Mine is broken (stuck in extended) and it makes a very annoying/semigrinding sound everytime i turn on the radio until i changed my stereo and disconnect the power antenna cable. i've tried to get to the antenna assembly but that doesn't look easy.

any advice here is gladly appreciated.

cheers

I had one on my mitsubishi 3000gt(known in other countries as a GTO). It was easy to replace because the base of the antenna/aerial unscrewed. Then you would remove the broken plastic gear track that the motor moves up and down, by making the antenna go up while it was unscrewed. Then to install the new antenna you just stick the flexible plastic gear track of the new mast into the hole and make the antenna go down. Then as it pulls it in you just hold the antenna up and it will suck it in. Then replace the nut. I know the nut on the base was not your standard nut and I had to use a screwdriver to tap it loose.

Good Luck.

Hi there,
I have been told that I need to take out the fuse for the power aerial to stop the grinding noise coming from the motor. I have found the fuse box but I am unable to locate the power aerial fuse. Does anyone have any ideas as to which fuse is the one to take out?
I have been told by one auto mechanic that I just need a new mast and another one tells me the motor is stuffed and I need the whole assembly. I don't have the money to replace the whole thing but would like to fix the mast if that is all it is. I don't think that I can do it myself so I will have to pay for someone to do it for me. I have been quoted $80 to $100 just in labour. :(

hi there haven't checked this thread for a while now, have you found a solution? the antenna is powered by the radio, when i changed my stereo i did my own rewiring so i left out the wire for the power antenna. in your case I guess if you reach for the back of the radio you can cut the wire to the power antenna.
