I not sure but i think the radio puts out about 20watts per channel...i just upgraded my HU and what a difference in sound.Louder and alot of settings to help the stock speakers and sub sound better with a HPF(high pass filter) and a 8band EQ and many more options..

I have a thread in pictures if u wanna see my Pioneer HU....And i am curious about your question too.I may just upgrade the sub for now and keep door speakers stock..Until i fall into some money then i will get components and crossover,amp,etc...

its only 80 watts, 4ohm 8inch and 10 inch will not fit in stock sub box. the factory amp will not be enough to power that. I have an 8in kicker cvr 4 ohm 400 what max handle and the stock amp doesnt even make it move let alone give you any bass, unless you place on throwing a in a hi/low cross over and a new amp in, id stick with the stock sub. IMO save yourself some money until you can invest in the whole package.

I have everything i need to finish my install, just havent had the time

the COMPVR is rated at 200rms and the COMP is rated at 100rms maybe thats why your set up dint work. how did you wire the sub? 8,4 or 2ohm? do you know the wattage and inpedance of the speakers? if changing the sub wont work then im just going to change the speaker and hope it make a difference. my goals is to get just some better sound for cheap not blow out the windows. and can some one tell me where all 7 speakers are? 2 front door 2 rear 1 sub 1 tweeter above the sub? and 1???

Originally i was just running it off the stock amp. which was way worse than the prem. i have yet to fully install everything. i have the hi/low crossover that i was going to run off the inputs that go into the stock amp. i bought only a 200 watt amp because i wanted to keep the amp mounted in the original spot. there is no tweeter above the rear sub. that little grill piece above is more like a vent, i was wondering about that myself and when i tore the rear pannel out there was nothing. you can go two routes running a rear sub. different harrness that gives you rca's or a cross over.

depending what your going for in sound. if your looking for good quality you would be better off replacing the door speakers. you would see some improvement. but you are still limited by the stock hu because of the power its putting out. but would be better than stock.

I wired my sub as 4ohm because thats what it technically is, is a 4ohm. My guess for stock door speakers, is around 25 but not sure.

Not sure what year your running but i only thought the newer like my 09 was only 5 speaker. like you said two front two back and then sub.

The cheapest thing you could do for the most bang for your buck would be to replace the stock (paper cone) door speakers with some aftermarket ones + add sound insulation in the doors.
Later on you can upgrade the sub with a false floor installation (lots of threads here on that).

i got a 2012 escape limited. it says it has 7 speaker but only see 5. going to replace the sub with a 8" Comp C84. if it doesnt improve any thing it wont be a big lost got it for $30. ill replace the speaker in the next 2 months with some kicker DS68 ic an get the front and back pairs for about $60. so if for less than $100 total i can get better sound with out any visible modification it will be worth it. post in about a week the results of the new sub.

My 04 has the premium system. It has 4 door speakers,2 speakers on front doors window corner sail panels.one sub..=7

I think they are speakers on the front door sail panels, or they could be tweets. anyone know for sure what they are? They are pretty big, so i guessing speakers...Here is one of them to see what they loo like..

The 7 speakers are:

2 in each front door (separate midrange and tweeter in a 6x8 package)
1 in each back door (full-range OEM paper speaker)
1 sub in the trunk

They stopped putting the tweeters in the sail panels in 2008 I believe. Unfortunate, since that location provides much better directionality to the sound. AFAIK no one makes a sail panel for the 2008-2012 Escapes that has mounting provisions for a tweeter.

Just opened up the stock sub and the This quote has it wrong it is not a "4ohm sub" it is an 8" sub and it is a dual voice coil with each coil at 1ohm. im guessing they might run it in series and make it a 2ohm sub inside the amp but dobtfull. so now i have to oder a new sub with with dual voice coil or figure out how to make my compatible with the built in amp. plus it doesnt sit flush. but it looks like im just going to return the sub and upgrade all 4 speakers instead. ill put some pics up off the sub and the location of it with the stock amp when i get a chance.

I want to add a bigger amp and a subwoofer without changing my stock head unit. Im using this LOC http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2V1Ki9YxMQ ... -LC2i.html

There are 4 wires that run from my stock amp to the stock sub. Can I tap into these wires and run them to my Line Out Converter? The only other option would be to tap into the two rear speakers (left and right), but this is extra work I'm trying to avoid. Will the line outs to the sub work? (im guessing the stock sub is a dual voice coil - so I can use the wires from one coil to my L input on the LOC and the wires from the second coil to the R input on the LOC).

Help!!
