Hello All,
I just signed up and already have a question. The black paint or coating on the cross bars of my roof rack is comming off. What type of coating should I replace it with? Any special pre- painting procedure?

I just use black model paint to touch them up every once in a while. I wash them with dish detergent first to get off any grime. Let them dry and fill in the silver areas with the paint. It's not a perfect "from the factory" finish but from a distance it looks much, much better...

You can also use spray-on bedliner. It's supposed to be very abrasion-resistant.

Plastic/vynl sheeting would work if the surface is slick and the sheeting has uv protection. I saw some at AutoZone in with the hardware stuff on the rack.
