I bolted my roof rack carrier on today and realized the Yakima is very easy to steal with the stock hardware. It uses wingnuts rather then hex nut. So I replaced the hardware with nylocks and bolted it straight on to my ladder rack. I purchased a new ladder that folds into 5' from 26' so it now fits on the swim step..
Anyway just an idea if your yakima roof carrier uses wingnuts.

Seeing any reduced gas mileage with the roof rack?

I have a Yakima LoadWarrior (Ford No Boundaries edition picked up for a bargain on Ebay) and it is unbelievable to me the amount of gas mileage I lose with it on.

C&D (or some magazine) did a MPG study awhile back. You even lose some (~.2?) with the stock cross bars always on. I've taken mine off both of my vehicles. I doubt I'll ever use them anyway. I do like the looks of the rails for some odd reason. I think SUVs (Mariners/Escapes/etc.) look nekkid w/o them.

Ours is nekkid  . No bars, no steps, no rails. Nuttin on it except the smile on my face :p knowing it gets around 25 mpg in town and over 30 on the highway doing 80+ mph :pug: . :calvin:
