I have just purchased a 2006 FEH ( 75K ) from
a private party. The owner shared with me
an incident where she ran it out of gas. Seems
the FEH simply reverted to battery only mode
and she was able to go the 3 blocks to a
station and fill up. All seemed well after that.
Has anyone else experienced out of gas?

I wouldn't intentionally run ANY vehicle out of fuel. The fuel pump will suck out all the crud from the bottom of the tank, which could plug up your fuel filter and/or destroy your fuel pump. I did that in one of my old cars and it cooked the fuel pump, which took a $300.00 bite out of my wallet to get fixed.

When your fuel message states "miles to empty" you have approximately 1.2 gallons left in the gas tank of the 2005-08 models. The 09 and newer vehicles will have approximately 0.8 gallons left at the same message signal. At another "FEH" site, two individuals have run their 2005 FEH approximately 2 miles without any fuel in their tanks. You are limited to around 20 mph and in the last mile the vehicle will slow down like a spinning top ready to topple over.

The use of E10 and "higher" blends will work to dissolve all the "crude" found in gasoline but not in ethanol.

I don't disagree at all with that. But, this vehicle ( FEH ) may do things that
are unexpected. Just wondering how many have actually run out of gas with
an FEH and been able to recover easily. I know of one.

I know two that did this on purpose to provide information to other owners. After adding fuel to the tank and restarting, the ICE -MG1-MG2 recharges the hybrid battery to normal status. There is no need for you to do this.

when i bought my escape i had to ship it to hawaii. i drove it from the tri-cities washington to tacoma (3 hours at 70 mph, not sure the exact distance) and i had to pump out fuel before i shipped it cause it was above 1/4 tank. the fuel pumped out faster then the gage so it looked like 1/4 but was really empty. didnt find this out till i got back to hawaii and picked it up from my friends house who got it while i was gone. i had to push it into the gas station cause the battery was "dead" and no gas. just filled it up and havent had any problems with it.
