I might be winning won a set of painted-black side view mirrors taken off a 2009 Ford Escape XLT with Sport Appearance Package that had suffered some lot or delivery damage. All the damage entails is about a two-inch scratch on the left mirror, which makes me wonder why both were taken off. Anyhow, after I fix the minor scratch (I'll probably just paint over it) and wonder if I should paint them to match my car (sport blue), how do I go about getting them installed?

I don't have diagrams for the 2009, but with my 2003, you removed the door panel to gain access to the black cover (sail panel?) behind the mirrors. Once that came off, there was the wiring harness along with three hex nuts you removed to get the entire assembly off.

According to the local dealership, the Sport Appearance Packages aren't heated (much to my surprise), but I guess that's also a plus because it will install properly. I kinda wish I had those heated ones though... :)

1. It looks as though this might be an opportunity to swap out the front speakers for some nicer ones. Or am I misreading the diagram? I can't tell.
2. Do I need to follow through that whole thing just to get the side view mirror? From the diagram, it doesn't really appear as though I need to remove the entire panel, but what do I know?! :D
