Someone hit my Escape :(

8536 Views 48 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  Scooter Scott
So I had my Escape parked at my sister's fiance's house. We went out to eat, and when I came back I see this:

It put a huge dent on the bumper, buckled in the fender and the headlight is pointing down a little bit. It was a hit and run and I don't think it is worth turning into insurance...I literally started to tear up when I saw this happened and the person at fault didnt take responsibility. I'm tearing up thinkin about it right now...:(

:(' noooooooooo

It's about $400 for the bumper cover and installation. Probably another $500 to fix the fender and repaint. My mom did the same thing to mine, and I got a junkyard bumper and popped the fender out with a C-clamp and wooden blocks. The paint peeled a little and I pulled it off, put on some touch-up paint, and wet-sanded slightly. Definitely noticeable, but no more big dent.
:( Thanks for the info Squishy. I have close friends in the car business and he said that he knows quite a bit of ppl that do body work so he is gonna ask around to see what they can do.
Aww, Scottie......so sorry this happened to you! :('
A thousand poxes on the person that did this!!

Keepin' you and your hurt lil 'Scape in my thoughts!! :\/
It'll buff out. :(

Actually, It wouldn't be too hard to fix that yourself. .....well...I don't know about the front bumper but I do know the rest would be pretty easy.
:censor: Wouldn't you just love to meet the person who did this, ay scottie?

I feel your pain, as look at the damage done to my Maverick a few weeks back by our next door neighbours 25 year old :censor: yob (sorry, son) :cuss:  , after he bricked my car when he was yet again high on heroin, not content with mine, he attacked several other cars on our street, it took 6 police officers to arrest him :BB2 :BB2 :/:/ :stop: :spank: :BB2
I have 10 years no claims on my insurance, so I'll fill / respray it myself when the weather gets a bit warmer :cuss:

Scott, You said it best, about someone not taking responsibility. :cuss:  Just seems like you can't have/keep your vehicle nice. Also camusdarrach, there are only two heroin addicts I know. 1. There dead or 2. They get help and stop the addiction. I don't see the young lad lasting very long........ :(
:shock2:

Yikes! Sorry about that, Scottie. I feel your pain.

The lack of conscience that some people display just never ceases to amaze me.

:censor: :cuss:
Scott, I did something similar to my Trib on day 2 of ownership. I was sooo mad at myself I stayed up all night working on it until it looked like new (almost).

Did you do any detective work? Like did any neighbors have guests for dinner? Did any neighbors possibably see anything? Is your Sis friendly enough with any of them to ask around?...I feel your pain :cuss:
I'm amazed that nobody has invented a camera system that could take pictures when a vehicle is bumped, moved, or hit. Since the tiny cameras take almost no current, and since shock detection and hard drive storage are already in big use in cars, why hasn't this been done?

Do I need to invent everything myself?

Well, that's kind of my point. With everyone virtually having a camera thru their cell these days, I would think someone saw something.
You have my sympathy Scottie. I recently had someone reverse into my nudge bar. There was no damage but the nudge bar moved from it's original position. My local panel shop had a special tool, and re-adjusted the nudge bar to its former alignment.

I know some people don't like bull bars for cosmetic reasons. I can imagine the damage on my car without that protective bar. It would possibly be a panel crumple, mangled grille and headlight. But yes, i can anticipate what you are feeling. The escape is my only vehicle. Main priority is driving to city from country to perform my work commitments. It is my pride and joy , so henceforth is an extension of my personality.
Thanks for all of the warm thoughts guys. I'm still very saddend by this. I have already spread the word around and will continue to have people ask around. This happened in my hometown so I can't go around and investigate myself as I don't live there anymore...but I will try to figure out who it is.
So sorry to hear about this Scott. I hope that you catch who did it. :(
So sorry to hear about the damage to your "baby", Scottie. This isn't the way you want to start out the week.

I agree with JP, the ethics of most people these days are spectacularly bad. I know you can get this fixed easily.

Oh, and what Dasha said about the "pox" goes double!!!
Sorry to see that scottie, I have had the hit and run thing several times now. It almost seems to be the way to go in our system as the police never go after anything so trivial. THey have doughnuts to eat after all.
:( I'm sorry about your Escape.
I definitely can feel your pain, also. My Focus was hit in the rear while it was parked in my own driveway one day. Of course, no one saw anything. The cop thought it could've been a kid that wanted to turn around but came into my driveway too fast and misjudged where his front end was, then got scared and fled.
I hope you end up finding out who did it, if not, I hope that person gets what he deserves.
Man, first your transmission, now this. :('
Darn Scottie, I'm sorry to hear about that. Having your car banged up sucks. I went through this not too long ago after hitting a deer if you all recall.
