Hi,

I recently installed a Boss BCPA9 in my 2012 Limited. Everything works fine. I then did the rerouting of the stock reverse camera to the new head unit like the post from Colinc755 here: Mirror Backup Camera To After Market Stereo (HOW TO} and ended up with a very dark video feed. It’s almost as if there’s some sort of polarizing Filter on it. The screen works fine when on any other mode and there is no option to adjust just the video feed. The camera displayed as normal on my mirror as well. Do any of you have any experience with this or any advice?

I have connected one from an Escape (from that generation, from a junk yard car as I don't have one), as well as one for my 2012 Fusion, to a variety of video options (including my 65 inch TV) and not seen it be that dark, it worked with all I tried (the mirror small display, a 4 inch LCD, a 6.5 inch LCD, and my big TV). I assume you have an adapter for the OEM connector to convert to RCA that connects to the head unit? Was the shield wire also connected to something on the head unit?

No. I didn’t use an adapter. I just ran 3 wires from the mirror to the head unit and then connected wired an rca plug into those 3 and then w plugged in the RCA. I didn’t have a long enough RCA cable to go from the mirror to the head unit either. I will say that I don’t have the bare wire from the rca cable shielded. Is that something I need to do?

I would guess that yes, it is an issue with shielding. I have short runs of not shielded cables (from harness to RCA end) and it can adversely affect the quality.
