I just bought this 06 Escape Limited. Where the heck did this radio come from? Its gotta be a Ford, but it doesn't look like any Escape radio I've seen.

Can I swap it out for the one I pulled from my 03? Or did the wiring change?

To my knowledge you can swap them out. Right JP?

I think they can be swapped, but let me look for sure.

That doesn't look like a Ford Factory radio, at least not like any I've seen since around 2002. It looks more like a factory Tribby system, which probably plugs right in.

If the lighting isn't green, it's not a 2006 Ford factory system.

OK -- it definitely looked like it wasn't the original.

I'll probably try to eBay it and get the one that's supposed to be in there. Can anyone help me identify what this one actually is, so I know what to put in the auction description? I tried looking at a couple of the Ford radio repair sites (they have lots of pictures of factory HUs) but didn't find a match.

Thanks!

If you could pull the head unit and get a part number, I might be able to tell you what it is.

Also, if your 2003 HU has both a 24-pin and an 8-pin connector, it should work perfectly in the 2006 Limited. The pin layouts and functions are identical. But if your 2003 HU has only a single 16-pin connector, you won't be able to use it without a connector converter, and the subwoofer won't work with it.

Here are the audio connectors for the 2001-2004 models:

2005-2007 models:

I took pics of my 2007 Limited stock, I presume that you may have the same thing... I decided against resizing - sorry!!

Hi:

It is the exact same radio that I have in my Escape.
So, yup, it's a Ford radio.

I picked up the truck last night, and I'm thinking that I was wrong about the radio. With the headlights on, the display matches the dash perfectly -- it lights up green. Who knows what the deal is with this, but the radio really does match the interior. And its a 6-disc and doesn't sound too bad.

The Mazda Tribute systems from 2006 were also green.

I'd be interested in the part number for that HU. [nudge, nudge, wink, wink]

Yup. I changed my '05 Escape's gauge face to a Tribute gauge face, and it was green.

I haven't seen the '08 and newer Tributes, but both the '08 and newer Escape and Mariner are now blue.

Tribbie dash for 08 is red, but the center stack is blue   . It's OK, but a little mixed up IMO.
