Does anyone know what size and brand the 2005 ford escape hybrid subwoofer is? I have the upgrade cd based navigation and I assume upgraded speakers. Also does anyonw know if the cd changer they put in that vehicle with the cd based navigation is able to play mp3?

Well, if your truck is an 05, and it HAS a subwoofer, then it's going to be an 8", and it's made for Ford by JBL (mind you, low-rent JBL).

I was given a factory sub/amp recently (for free) and just installed it this past weekend. Now it won't rattle your filling out of your mouth, but for a factory sub I think it fills in the other 6 speakers nicely.

It will be better than nothing, but no comparison to a (halfway) decent aftermarket 8 and amp. I would never pay to add the factory set up if I didn't have it.

Stupid question, but to replace the head unit in this system, is there any special adapter harness required or is it just a standard harness? Does the Mach system have a non-powered head unit like the Bose system in GM? I assume the subwoofer amplifier is hooked up with high-level signals, essentially tapped off the rear speakers perhaps?

I guess the root of my question is, if I change the stereo, will the speakers play and the sub still work?

I am in the process of changing my HU also. I bought a brand new Kenwood DNX 5140 off Ebay for $490.00. I am waiting for the harness wire to be delivered. I purchased the harness from Crutchfeild, the total amount with shipping is $19.99. I also bought a American International FMK552 for the double din bracket for the H.U. of Ebay. Right now I am only upgrading the head unit and will be using the stock speakers and sub.

Yes there is a power wire that does goes to to the Mach amp. The amp power has to be modify to prevent a popping noise in the sub when the H.U. is power on, here is the link that explain how to mod it for the new head unit 12v to Mach 5v.

I don't know how different they are but the harness above does not fit the '05-'06 Tribute. I bought one from Best Buy and it does not mate up. I also have the 7 speaker system and the main harness dosen't fit and there is no place to plug in the RCA connector...unless it plugs in directly to the amp itself...Not sure but I'm taking mine back today.
