Hey guys its been a while
well, I got stationed on the west coast pacific northwest where its colder than Texas.

so when i start the escape first time in the morning it has been stuttering and dies sometimes until the engine gets Hot after a couple miles then its fine.

I smell exhaust when the heater is on as well when parked, it sounds like it has an exhaust leak near the front because its ticking air sound kinda, but i dont know if its exhaust leak, o ring or exhaust manifold anyone got any ideas, could it be getting too much air threw the manifold causing it to stutter until it gets hot closing it up?

IAC and Upper/Lower intake gaskets I found have been pretty common problems. I'd try pulling off the IAC first and cleaning it, then put it back on. If that doesn't stop it, my next guess would be intake gaskets. I myself, my father, and a few others have encountered this problem and the gaskets fixed it. You can get the gaskets from a parts store for aout 50 dollars.

You do also have to consider, it could always be a vacuum leak somewhere other than the gaskets. Anywhere where air can get into the engine. You will probably get codes like po141 that tell you the system is too lean. Probably even cylinder misfire codes, but don't let that alarm you, it's juat because of the rough idol, so of course the engine is going to be missing. Especially when your air/fuel mixture is all screwed up like that.

I fixed the problem i changed the lower and upper intake manifold gaskets as well as the other two gaskets the set came with for the mass air flow and Idle air control valve sensor; the check engine light is still on but it doesnt shutter or every die, runs great.
